I am 11 weeks pregnant, but can't swallow my saliva. I don't eat well either, I can't take my pregnacare as I will feel nausea. I drink only very chilled water when I can. I hope my baby will be fine. I am really waiting to have my next scan, as am so worried about my baby. Anybody experienced this?

If your struggling with the pregnacare then opt for a separate folic acid and vitamin d pills. They are far cheaper anyway and it’s really all you need, my midwife described pregnacare as expensive urine. They are much smaller too so easier to take x

Hello! I’ve had this with twice now.

Ptyalism is common during the first trimester of pregnancy. You might need to spit out some saliva into a tissue quite often, and the bitter taste of the saliva can cause nausea and vomiting. The good news for most women is that it should ease after the first trimester.

It’s pretty common, I suggest things like Ice lollies or mints. I’m currently 32 weeks with my second and mine has just started easing off (it’s frustrating!! The first pregnancy it was around 25 weeks when it eased) but I’ve been using chewing gum to help me swallow the saliva as it can taste quite metallic. Unfortunately there isn’t anything you can be prescribed for it so you just have to find what works best for you, tip tops and ice lollies can help numb the saliva glands so my midwife told me.

I hope it eases off soon!
