So just discovered i am pregnant. Been trying for a while, a little scared this time as in 2019 i had a miscarriage at 7 weeks. I want to do all the right things. Does anyone know if drinking decaf coffee can cause a miscarriage- googled this so many times and getting all different answers.

Decaf coffee in pregnancy
I’m 23 weeks and drink decaf tea - it’s the caffeine that’s bad so decaf coffee is fine.
I do occasionally have a can of coke as a treat and if I’m round someone’s house and they don’t have decaf I’ll have a normal tea - all well within the range of the amount of caffeine you’re allowed a day.
Xx
Decaf coffee is fine, you just have to limit your caffeine intake my midwife told me one cup of normal instant coffee is okay then go onto decaff for the rest of the day but the taste of normal coffee made me sick but I would drink a lot of decaff coffee.
I think the recommendation is to not exceed 200mg of coffee a day, which is about 2 cups of instant coffee. Decaf has a negligible amount of coffee, I don’t think there is a link with that and miscarriage. The internet has all sorts of things, just make sure you are only looking at reliable sources backed up by studies or some sort of evidence. I usually have one cup of instant coffee in the morning and then one decaf in the afternoon.
I understand where you are coming from, I’m sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I had a missed miscarriage and found out at my 12 week scan that there was no heartbeat. That was over 8 years ago now and I have a healthy 6 year old boy and a 16 week old baby girl. I was petrified with both of my pregnancies, I did drink one normal coffee a day and the rest decaf I also ate chocolate when I wanted to, try not to over do it but like another user has said 200mg of caffeine will be fine. Most miscarriages are due to chromosomes problem and nothing that you have done wrong. I felt the same way, what did I do wrong, what could I have done differently.....however it turned out there was a problem with chromosome and I had a part molar pregnancy, so no matter what I had done would not have made any difference to my baby. I would say try not to worry to much but I understand how hard that is after suffering from a miscarriage. Good luck and take it easy x
If you actually check the amount of caffeine that you are recommended not to exceed, it is higher than you would expect. I had cravings in my second pregnancy for energy drinks of all things! After weeks of fighting, I checked the NHS website and found that actually, I could have one if I wanted. I was astounded. Obviously, i didnt then go crazy on the red bull but I did treat myself to a can a month when the cravings were really really bad. And the odd can of coke too. Im not a medical professional but I'd say even if you did exceed the caffeine limit occasionally it would not cause miscarriage. I believe it is more linked with babys size and weight development etc whereas miscarriage is caused by a problem with the egg/sperm/dna/embedding in the womb which cant be affected by caffeine as far as I know (again, not a medical proffessional).
Thank you for replying to me. Just worrying more with this one. You have helped me a lot though thank you xx
