It's generally not recommended because of the sugar content. Ideally he should only drink water or milk. If he won't have water then very, very weak squash. NHS website has some guidance on this.

I personally don't give my 17 month old daughter sugary drinks because I had terrible issues with my teeth as a child and was given lots of sugary drinks and sweets from a young age, so I want to ensure she doesn't suffer the same fate! Of course there will be exceptions, like parties but, at their young age, and while they don't understand, I would avoid these drinks for as long as possible.

Hope this helps x

My lb does have a fruit shoot on rare occasion just as a treat but normally weak squash don’t think one hurts. Xx

We give occasionally and have done since about 18 months but not that often. She has weak juice probably every other day but main drink is water

I get the baby spring fruit water and the black currant has one. I hope these are ok as they are made for babies😬

Given in a lidded cup not a bottle and do only give a small amount a day - good to have with their meal. - bad for teeth still if given in large amounts - I do let my baby have it but just am careful with how much he drinks.

My little one has had fruit shoots every now and again as a treat. I think it's important to teach moderation and not stop her from having things. I know a lot of kids that's parents were super strict with food, go off the rails as soon as they got freedom to pick themselves. It's all a personal choice though. Definitely wouldn't recommend them every day or anything but once in a while won't do any harm.

I call them fruit loops as they make them go silly. I don't think they are very good for them - full of sugar. I really would stick to milk and water and maybe a very small amount of juice a day . This is what my 10 month old has - and its baby juice -my 4 year old is allowed a small cup of apple juice - but still if drunk in big amounts is bad for teeth. My little girl when a toddler use to get hyper on drinks so would only let her have water and her cows milk. They don't really need other drinks - if you can get them drinking water - great ! As no added sugar and is really good for them.

Its not recommended to give LOs anything like this, just milk or water. Its sooo bad for their teeth and you dont want them to get hooked on drinks like that. I am a med sec and type some bits for a dental clinic and im horrified at the amount of kids under 7 having dental clearance work done on milk teeth due to eating and drinking sugary stuff...its awful!!my LG is nearly 3 she gets watered down squash only occasionally since lockdown when weather has been super hot to keep her hydrated but she loves plain water and milk still, and surprisingly she doesnt ask for squash since having it a few times. I understand people wanting to give stuff in moderation so they wont go off the rails later on but i was never brought up on squash and fizzy drinks and dont drink the stuff now so i didn't go crazy!! Ive got friends that drink cans of coke day in day out i think its horrible stuff! 16 months is v.young..he will no way know hes missing out ...continue on water and milk if i were you! I think watered down squash or oj or apple juice would be better than a fruit shoot Xxx

I personally would rather water. Mainly because i dont like water and don't want him to be the same

The no added sugar fruit shoots contain 1.3g of sugar. My little one is 17 months and he has them now and again if we’re out. It’s the bottle that he actually likes though, so I sometimes keep it and fill with water for him and he gulps it down just the same!

That's a good idea I didn't think to keep a bottle x

I give my little boy no added sugar ones and the flavoured water ones.... he loves them.... hes had them since he was about 14months old he now 17 months but he dont have them all the time.... I think if you dont give all the time... then it should be fine xx

Coming from a dental nurse. Keep everything sugar free and fizz free. You can get the no added sugar fruit shoots. But just remember to brush his teeth xx

I give my 8months old son a small amount of fresh orange squash mixed with water everyday. Not sugary, and really good for bowel movement. It’s also full of vitamins, and that’s good! He likes it, but doesn’t get crazy for it, so it’s easy for me to stop him when he had enough.

If your LO does not like water so much like mine, that’s a good think to get him hydrated during the day.

I’m not planning to give him baby juice soon. They’re really full of sugars and preservatives, so not really good for babies, if not only on really rare occasions.

I prefer to make juices on my own, at least I know what my son is drinking.
