Nappy Blowouts with 8 month old.... solution or do they grow out of it please?

My little boy has been having 'blowouts' for around 2-3 months. I didn't think much of it as we've always been indoors. Although it's inconvenient to change him, then soak and clean everything in Napisan it is a big nuisance as the washing machine is running daily for mainly vests and accidents.

I didn't know they were called blowouts and was too embarrassed to ask others at the Children's Centre. When he drinks from the bottle, he goes with such force and usually rocks back and forth on his bum, that it ends up going up his back. He isn't crawling yet, but using his legs and bum to kind of jump forward. Not good with a semi full nappy. Although I'm changing them as soon as possible it still goes everywhere. We are using new Pampers nappies with 'air flow' or something at the back, but it has occurred with other nappies as well. I'm considering using 'gaffer tape' next time on the back of the nappy

😂. Only joking, but can anyone suggest something that may work. I've looked for 'Blowout blockers from the US' but apparently they only go from birth to 9 months. Is this because most babies stop this at 9 months or does it get better with a bigger diet/ more food? Any ideas much appreciated. I'm going through vests like no tomorrow and other half is fed up of seeing them soaking in a washing up bowl in the shower lol :) Many thanks. Hoping you and you're families/ friends are all keeping well at this time.

Hi Lovely!

I am a little unsure of the correct advise to give but, if you go onto the Cow&Gate advice line there is online chat options and telephone options where a specialist children's expert gives you advise. I have always had a prompt response!

Hope it gets sorted soon! I tend to chuck my little one into a bath!

Thanks will give it a go. My little one is always in the bath each evening. It's the 'short feed' that turns into a complete change of clothes, bath and then standing in the bathroom trying to get the worst off his clothes and leave them into soak :) Let's just say daddy doesn't do the feeding any more. Wasn't sure if it was 'normal' but we've only had him on 'Cow&Gate' for a short while and now we're weening. He was breastfed before so I could understand that. Thank you

The cow&gate advice line offer a range of advise regarding many things. Is his poo running because if so it may be worth speaking with a GP incase there is intolerance to something. X

My son was always having blow outs, he’s exclusively breastfed so his poos are still pretty runny, even now at 9 months. The only nappies I’ve found that stopped it were rascal and friends.

I noticed the poo-splosions started after we moved up to size three, and I had tried just about every brand of nappy, but they all had the same flat texture where as newborn size 1 and 2 were dimpled to help absorb the runny poo. R&F are dimpled in all sizes which I find really helps, they’re also elasticated at the waist for a better fit as my son is skinny with a big bum so other nappies leave a gap no matter how I fasten them.

Hopefully you find a solution soon x

That's really helpful thank you. Will try and get some. We were alternating between 'Beaming Baby' and a different 'Pampers Air' nappies. It only really started getting bad around size 3 as well. Thanks for your suggestion :) x
