Cannot tolerate MEAT! Help.

Hi, I am 7+4 weeks pregnant and I’m experiencing very strange things. I used to eat lots of meat, lots of eggs, chicken and very high protein foods. But now I can’t even think of being near them. I know getting enough protein is a very important during pregnancy. So what do you ladies recommend? Has anyone felt this way? It’s such a strange aversion.

Many, many women experience this including myself. I couldn’t stand any form of meat, chicken, fish or curry. Some experts think it’s the bodies way of keeping us away from foods easily contaminated and possibly harmful during pregnancy. You will likely get your appetite back but not for a while. In the meantime try fruit and veg with carbs and dry foods. Good luck.

Yep I had this too! Slowly getting some tolerance back now at 13 weeks but it’s still really hit and miss whether I can eat it! First time in my life I’ve ever been able to resist the smell of bacon cooking 😂

I found ham more tolerable than most, I’m back eating eggs again but haven’t managed any big meats like chicken etc yet. You can add some protein powder to a smoothie if you’re worried about getting enough xx

I had this especially with chicken but just forced myself to eat it but it did last all my pregnancy unfortunately x

I had the same for a few weeks. Now I’m week 11 and it seems to be a bit better though the smell of some meat still makes me nauseous. I find I cope better with meat in Asian food that’s more marinated and with spices. I tried to eat small portions and tried to keep them down. Try also fish or prawns. I coped with them better. If you’ve eaten lots of meat before and, I’m sure you have enough protein in your body so don’t worry too much of not getting enough protein. Good luck! X

During pregnancy most women feel the same, for me it was just normal, I'm 31+4 I don't eat meat since 6 years now, and my protein level is always just perfect, You can manage to have so many different kind of food with high levels of proteins not coming just from meat, until you'll find the same appetite so don't worry. In the mean time try new food lots of fruits vegetables and chickpeas lentils beans... Enjoy the rest of the pregnancy take care of you self🤗

I had the same thing! It’s very strange...

I have been eating baked beans and peanut butter on toast for protein. It won’t last forever - I’m 17 weeks now and am back to eating anything now 😊

This is me. The smell and mere thought of meat make me feel sick, which is really puzzling because I used to be a meat lover. It started at 6 weeks. Thankfully I can tolerate boiled eggs. That's my only source of protein for now.

i also had an aversion to meat during most of my first trimester. Mine went away after 14/15 weeks along with the worst of my morning sickness. I just tried to eat loads of different beans, fruit, veg and some eggs when I could tolerate them.
