So my little girl used to love going out in the car, but the last 1-2 weeks she just cry’s hysterically, I have too pull over a few times, to calm her down. She has her teether’s and comforter with her, but still cries.

Anyone got any help?

How old is she? It may just be a bit of separation anxiety because she can’t see you. If someone is able to ride in the back with her so she knows she’s not alone that may help. Or if you’re on you’re own and driving it’s perfectly safe for the majority of infant carriers to be used in the front passenger seat as long as the airbag is turned off just check your car seats manual. If you’re aware that you’ll be travelling in advance. Feeding her before the journey may help. Remember 2 hours maximum in the car seat for babies. After that they need 20-30 minutes rest time out of the car seat so if it’s a long journey make sure to factor in rest stops. Xx

I talk too her all the time and sing (which probably makes it worse 😂) she’s 5 1/2 months. She’s fine in her dads car, it’s not all the time, but is most journeys lately.

I’ve found baby needs to be able to see me to feel comforted rather than just hearing me. My daughter is 20 weeks today and I’ve noticed recently that if I leave the room or move out of her sight she panics and starts crying but as soon as she can see me she’s fine nothing wrong with her. I think they start realising around this age that we can leave and they worry that we’re not coming back. She’ll most likely grow out of it. Do you have a picture of her in the car seat (can block out face if you don’t feel comfortable) maybe harness etc needs adjusting and she’s not comfortable? It’s hard to tell sometimes. Xxx

Could it be wind? Only suggesting that as it's come on suddenly and she used to be ok. Is the seat suited to her age? Obviously I realise you'd have a baby car seat, but I didn't remove my newborn insert (stupid oversight) and my poor babba was squished in there for longer than the insert was necessary! He always hated the seat though!!!

Hi

How long do you keep the newborn insert in car seat before removing?

I guess base it on size of your baby. But we'd squished our boy in for too long. Can't even remember how long but no wonder he didn't like being in there. He's in a toddler seat now though.

Our lb was about 10 weeks and he should have already been out of the new born bit as was being sqaushed lol x

I have had the same issue, realised the insert was making him sit in an uncomfortable position. I took mine out at 16 weeks but should have taken it out long before! He is so much better now.

She started crying while the insert was in, so we took it out (probably should of done beforehand) but she still cry’s. She’s fine in her dads, it’s the same car seat

I'm just glad I'm not the only one who made that mistake! Lol. Hope it gets better soon. Maybe it is a separation thing like someone above said, especially if she's not doing it for her dad. My son definitely is more difficult for me that his daddy!

Well we did try it a while ago, but she just looked lost lol. I hope it gets better aswell, I’m getting to the point where I don’t wanna go out in the car x

Can you plan nap times around travel? It is really distressing when your LO cries in the car seat and you can't do anything. I used to cry too (hubby driving, me sat in the back doing my best to comfort out son). I know you have a long time yet, bit as soon as my boy was in his toddler seat and had better visibility he was/is much better. He will still fuss if the journey is too long, but we have to schedule regular stops (family are across the country so we do a lot of long distance).

Just thought, do you have a mirror so u can see baby while driving?

I normally leave when is nap time, but still cry’s. We do have a mirror it’s a colourful elephant which she loves and used too chat away and laugh to it. I hope it’s just a thing she’s going through at the moment. She’s going through her leap 5 (its been the hardest so far) so I’m hoping it’s too do with this. We got a long journey too do in a couple of weeks 😬😬

Have you got any dangly toys in the car. We bought one that goes on the back of the seat from Mothercare and she loved watching that. Shame I can’t send a picture. It has a little moon, sun and cloud x

She has loads of toys in the back with her, I keep some next too me aswell which I pass too her. I’m hoping it’s because she’s going through leap 5- its been a difficult leap x
