Weaning

So our weaning is going well, we are just in purées at the moment, LG will eat anything, she doesn’t like her greens or butternut squash. But I will keep trying. I never liked my veg till I was early 20s.

When can I start her on like toast, sandwich, is it all at 6 months??

She loves her porridge with some fruit purée in, what sort of porridge do/did you buy. At the moment we just been using cow and gate (as we started her early)

How old is she as I wanna start my LG just anxious as she’s 14 weeks 😩 they say when they are sat up by themselves and are putting things to their mouth for the “ baby led weaning “

She’s nearly 5 1/2 months, we started her at 4 months on just baby porridge. I’m not too sure on baby led weaning, I like too know that she’s actually eating. I have been thinking though, of giving her, her purée plus a bit of veg on the side, for her too play with x

Yea, I will be doing this. Wish me luck 😂. It’s your baby and you do what you think baby needs. My hv was fine with me starting early, my LG loves her milk and food. There’s no one who knows your baby like you do, so you go with your gut x

14 weeks is very young to start weaning, the recommendation is to wait until 6 months. Enjoy the milk stage, weaning can be stressful and messy!

My understanding is there's no hurry on any of this. Ive been taking a look at a book by annabel karmel we were given, who I believe is the guru on all things weaning. Packed full of info, timescales, do's and don'ts and recipes. They're available cheap second hand on Amazon or pop to the library, or I bet there's LOADS of stuff on line from her. Ella's kitchen also send out a free wall chart and info pack which I found really useful in getting my head round everything. We're going to start on purée this weekend. He'll be 5 months but has horrible reflux so HV suggested early weaning. If she hadn't said that I would have defs waited til 6 months as that's the advice and like I said, my understanding is to take it all pretty slowly. Glad it's going well for your LG!! Hope my boy is as cooperative! Xx

How old is you baby? We just use ready brek type porridge, I found the baby stuff very expensive and it really is all the same stuff! I think with toast etc it really is down to the baby. You can give toast and she'll either put it in her mouth or throw it on the floor 🤣 if she has teeth she will learn to bite and chew but this may take some time. Just make sure you make things in manageable portions, and don't put your finger in her mouth to get something out - it could force it down. I found it very useful to know the difference between gagging and choking, my babies have never choked (yet! 😬) but gagged a lot at the beginning, it's a natural part of learning to eat. Good luck - the fun starts here!
