So we have started on the purée, just fruit in the morning and dinner at 5.30, not a huge amount, 1/3 of the jar.

Since we have been doing this our LG is not interested in her milk, should we give milk first? Or food first then milk a bit after??

She still having 5 bottles a day, none through the night, I didn’t know if it was time too maybe spread the feeds out throughout the day and stop the last feed

They say always offer milk first as it’s the main source of nutrition until one years old. Maybe drop either the morning or afternoon purée? We only did it once a day for about a month and then moved up to some breakfast xx

See everyone says different, some say food first and some say milk first 🤷🏼‍♀️ she will take her milk about 20 minutes after she’s has purée.

She loves the purée, I can’t give it too her quick enough, cry’s for more. But I don’t know how much is too much x

Obviously it’s completely up to you and it’s hard with all the conflicting advice. When I did it I’d rather my LG had her milk over the purée so I knew she was getting the right nutrients and hydration as she didn’t ever drink much water. Maybe speak to your HV x

At 6 months I gave milk first then food about an hour after or half way between feeds. By 7 1/2 months I’d dropped one of her 4 bottles as she didn’t want very much from the two middle ones (we were on 4 a day, 8,12,4 and 8 roughly) so I did wake up one, breakfast about and hour later, lunch at 12, bottle at 3, dinner at 5 and then milk at 8. She took a bigger bottle at 3 than the 12 and 4 one and was fine. Some people at that stage give a milk drink with breakfast but with my daughters milk and other food allergies I need to try and make sure she is getting enough prescription milk, it’ll also work out better when she starts nursery as they give breakfast but it will take some time to get up and out of the house so this will stave off the hunger.

I’d say try what you think might work, if she’s hungry she’ll let you know 😊 I’m currently battling 3pm and bedtime bottle refusal and the other day the morning one too so she had no milk at all 😩 I cant even give her cheese and yoghurt as a back up as she can’t tolerate any of the fortified alternatives so I’m having to get crafty with oat milk rice pudding, rusks and fortified cereal although none are as good as formula 😢 All the best with weaning x

She has her milk at 7.30/8, 11.30, 2.30, 5.30 and then 9.30 with fruit purée for breakfast and a dinner at 5.30. She doesn’t drink all her milk between 5-7ozs now she having the purée. But I find of she has purée first, she won’t have her milk till about 20-30 minutes after x

We started weaning at 5.5 months and as others have said it should be milk first then food, this is because they need 500ml of milk a day until that are 1 year old and if they have food first they will be full and take less milk. I also leave an hour before having food, so milk at 7.30am, breakfast at 8.30am.

My lo was on 5 bottles but soon dropped to 4 after having a proper bowl of porridge in the mornings. He has also dropped from 8oz a feed to between 3oz and 6oz (which im very pleased with as i think 8oz was just greedy lol)

Hope that helps

My LG gets more than 500ml of milk, so I’m not too worried as I know she gets enough. Yesterday was a bad day with milk but she still had 765ml.

She will have between 5-7ozs each feed, she just can’t get enough of her purée, she loves it, just don’t know how much of it she can have, I don’t wanna give her too much of it, just yet x

How long have you been doing it? I folloed annabel karmels guide of 30mls for brekfast for a week, 30ml lunch and 30ml breakfast for a week then uping the quantity. My LO would eat and eat so i just give him enough so he isnt crying for more however. Ive been weaning 5 weeks now x

3 weeks just breakfast, started of with baby rice (just a couple of mouthfuls, she would have) which she didn’t like at all, so went onto fruit purée (which she loved and still does) Then the last week, we started Spag Bol or veg for dinner (she can’t get enough of) i can’t give it too her quick enough, as soon it’s in her mouth it’s gone, I haven’t got time too put in on the spoon and she wants more 😂 il have too have a look at that guide, thank you x

Yup always milk first :)

Don’t worry giving purée you can give her the real fruit. Babies love purée because it’s made very sweet. It’s good to give them the actually fruit and veg so they can leave to chew and develop good hand eye coordination by picking it up themselves. So like with your spag Bol- learning how to grasp the spaghetti and bits of mince is fantastic for them x

Yes, definitely offer milk first. And don't worry if she's not really eating, it's just tasting at the very start!
