Hi Laides, Have any of you been told to take 75mg asprin from 12w as you are at risk of pre-eclampsia? I was told to take it by the midwife I saw at my booking appt, this will not be my regular midwife. As far as I can see the two risk factors I have are; I am 40yo and this is my first baby. There is no family history of it, my BMI at 11.5 weeks was 23 and I have no underlying health conditions. Will it harm the baby if I take it when I might not need it? I don’t see my regular midwife until 16w and i’m not sure this matter is big enough to bother her with before that. Just interested to hear your own experiences. Thanks

Asprin to prevent pre-eclampsia, help!
I've been taking aspirin since 12 weeks and am now 37 weeks with no problems at all and no sign of pre-eclampsia. I don't think they would advise you to take anything that would be harmful to the baby. The NHS website has information about why you'd be advised to take it and any how safe it is to take, but if you're still concerned speak to your regular midwife.
I took 75mg aspirin from CD1, mines an IVF baby but was never told to take it because of the risk of pre eclampsia. No harm done to my baby at all x
I’ve been on it since 12 weeks and I would recommend, same as you I only had 2 risk factors but it was the doctors who recommended me on it and not my midwife! If I was you I’d take it and then mention it in your next midwife appointment or maybe give her a ring if you are feeling uneasy about it? No issue is too small just to put your mind at rest Xx
Thanks ladies. Will check with Midwife tomorrow 👍
I think it is very common to be prescribed aspirin. I’m was put on 150mg from 12 weeks (I’m having IVF twins). My friend was on 75mg with a natural Singleton. It helps blood flow to the placenta x
I was told to take it due to it being an ivf pregnancy (my only risk factor for pre-eclampsia) so I’m on it with no issues. If you’re worried it’s definitely worth talking it through with them again though - just for your own piece of mind if nothing else! X
I’ve had 2 successful pregnancies with aspirin and both babies are fine 👍
i had to take it with my LB and again with this pregnancy, it is a lower dose than normal so what not harm the baby
I’m on aspirin too. I’m 21weeks and expecting twins and it’s my first babies so think that’s why I’m on it. It seems to be normal practice. If it would put your mind at ease just phone your midwife for reassurance. X
Im just at 12 weeks now and about to pop down to the pharmacy to get mine. Ive been on clexane injections since day 1 but im now switching to the low dose aspirin tablets. Its an ivf pregnancy and i have Hashimotos underactive thyroid which ive read can increase the risk of preeclampsia so I requested it and my clinic doctor agreed.
I was told to take it by my consultant from 17 weeks onwards to help with potential blood issues during birth.
I was advised the same at my booking appointment because of the same risk factors and like you, wasn’t sure whether to follow this advice or not. I haven’t taken any Asprin yet - I’m seeing the consultant at 17 weeks (in 3 weeks time) and was planning on double checking this advice then. I’d be interested to know what your regular midwife advised. Thanks!
With my first pregnancy I suffered with preeclampsia and had to have a c-section because of it. Second pregnancy, I had to inject clexane daily (to prevent blood clots) and aspirin daily to prevent preeclampsia and to support the placenta. I had a very healthy baby via VBAC 2nd of April. And no preeclampsia! Xx
