I am 26weeks and I've just read that pre eclampsia is common at 27weeks onwards. I am worried as I have alot of headaches and my right ankle is killing me and a bit swollen. Does anyone have any idea what other symptoms show pre eclampsia ? as I hate going to my GP or midwife for no reason. I am really worried any advice ladies.?

I would give your midwife a phone! It could be nothing but not worth the risk, they will be able to test you. These are early symptoms.

Hi, pre-eclampsia can be quite dangerous and premature labour is sometimes advised . The best thing to do would be to see your midwife., they will check your urine. Usually it is a combination of protein in the urine, high blood pressure , headache and excess swelling . Better to get checked out. A simple urine test and checking the blood pressure could rule it out. Try not to worry ! These things are usually picked up and can be treated once those two things are checked. Good luck!

Thanks ladies for your replies! I will have a chat with my midwife. You read about all these horror stories and that just adds to your worry. I was listening to the news the other day and they also mentioned apart from it being a silent killer the percentage of women getting it has significantly increased which is also quite worrying and they don't know the reason for this. Good luck to us all x

Don't panic! A few of my friends have delivered babies safely whilst suffering from pre eclampsia. As long as it's diagnosed as soon as possible then it can be managed usually. Just see your midwife who should be testing your urine and bp anyway. She will do that again to test for it.

Yes good plan. Speak to her today just in case! At least even to put your mind at rest.
