Weaning baby
We waited until six months as that’s what they recommend now and started with purée as was worried about baby led weaning. Probably did baby led from 7.5 months xx
It's definitely best to wait until 6 months. Marketing companies are allowed to label products as "from 4 months" but babies do not need solid food until they are 6 months old. The introduction of any new things will change your babies gut and the child is more likely to have issues with allergies the earlier you start weaning.
Agree with Hydromaid and Kempton, unless instructed otherwise from a paediatrician it should be 6 months onwards as their guts aren’t mature enough and you can cause issues later on. It’s also best to start with veg and fruit and stick with 1 at a time for 2-3 days to check your baby can tolerate it and doesn’t have an allergy, this is recommended on the NHS website and is more important for key allergy foods such as wheat, egg, peanut butter etc. (I’m more aware of this than most as my daughter has a cows milk protein allergy so weaning for us is a lot more interesting and challenging!) What’s also important is you introduce allergy foods early when weaning from 6 months too and not avoid them if you don’t need to as apparently this helps avoid allergies later as well, it’s a balancing act x
Thanks lady im definitely waiting now, i tried him on some other day and it made his belly bad , so I’m leaving it now until he’s 6 months old , feel awful now for giving him some in first place xxx
Aw I would worry. There’s so many places that say different things it can be confusing xx
It is very confusing , he was ok of the cow and gate fruit purées and baby rice , but the meals in jars that’s what made him have a bad stomach he’s never had more then 2 spoon fulls tho , he’s having nothing now till 6 months just though he was ready, he watches us all eat and opens and closes his month but I would rather him wait and not have any problems , Oww I feel so bad now 😭 xxx
I’m a first time mum so I want to get everything right and do best for him, just hope I haven’t caused him any problems with trying him on it , the people iv got round me try and tell me he should be weened at this age that age everyone’s different but as you lady’s say I’m defo waiting til he’s older x x
You’ll find people always have opinions on weaning. Food is for fun until one so there’s no rush to wean so just say to people your just following current guidelines xx
I’m going to thank you for you advise xx
Please don’t feel bad, first time Mum here too and pretty much not entirely sure what I’m doing either, it’s just I’ve probably done more reading that most. My daughter has never been a massive milk drinker either so trying to balance weaning with making sure she gets 500-600mls a day is hard and unlike other mums I can’t plug the gap with yoghurts and cheese, I panic she’s not getting what she needs 😢 On the bright side at least when you start weaning again you’ll know he’s good on fruit pouches and baby rice 😊 x
I’m same I worry about everything , is this right is that right and people have there different options , I did this with mine I did that , it’s mind boggling , but yeah on the bright side Iknow he likes them 😂 and I’m definitely not trying him now until he’s older , Google’s my worse nightmare I google thinga and worry even more but I can’t help it , thank you so much for your advise x x x
my hv told me to wait till my lb 26 weeks.... he is 17 weeks.... I brought rusks for him to have he has had one but she told me not to give any more.... so I would wait abit xxx
Inwould avoid risks all.together. bought a pack.once an noticed they packed with sugar, even the reduced sugar ones. So id avoid
Don't feel bad. We're all learning. And its confusing when products say they are suitable from before 6 months. My baby didn't even properly start eating until after he was 1 because he wanted milk more than anything, so he just little bits of here and there. I read somewhere that for breastfed babies it's not unusual for milk to still make up to 50% of diet until 18 months.
So much advice from people, especially older people, is so outdated. I had my hubby's nan telling me to start baby porridge at 3 months because that was the advice she was given! Just trust your instincts.
