Hungry monster!

Hello me again. My LG will be 6wks on Thursday and her appetite is insane! We got into a nice routine of getting almost 5hrs between feeds and slowly upping her intake. Now she can barely wait 3hrs without screaming the house down and is taking 150mls/5.5oz each feed. I don't really know how much she should be taking as by the weight to mls chart on the milk bottles she's taking too much lol. She never use to be so inpatient for food but the last couple of days she's been a nightmare and she's sick a lot more even after being winded loads. And she'll fidget a lot more when I put her down, she's also getting constipated. I don't know when her next appointment is with her HV is either. Is this normal??

I think at 6 weeks 3 hourly is quite normal. My LG was having around 6-7 bottles which added up to 26-28oz a day including night feeds x

Could it be a growth spurt? It should only last a few days if it is but if it lasts longer and she is still unsettled I’d ask your HV for advice. I’d not go off the tins either, my daughter has never followed the tin, in fact she has less than recommended per day yet has tracked her percentile nicely (I’m still stuck on 6oz of which she’ll take between 3-6 and she’s 6 1/2 months 😂), it’s the percentile which should guide you and your baby, mind you who knows what they do if they drink too much since if they are hungry they are hungry 🤷‍♀️ I can’t comment on feeding intervals as my daughter at that age was CMPA but undiagnosed and was snack feeding and had green poos and was really unsettled and dropping weight so I have no idea what would be typical at that age x

I feel like she's always having growth spurts lol. So far today I've managed to get bottles ready before she started screaming at me but she's only been taking about 4.5ozs and still was sick. And she finally had a poo but it was a lot softer than nornal and quite alot but she's still squirming about bless her. We have the drs tomorrow for our 6wk check up so I'll see what they say if not I might take her to a family clinic for the weigh in and advice, I've not been to one before so don't know how helpful they are compared to a HV. But yeah I'd rather her eat too much than not enough x

I’d definitely ask about any concerns tomorrow (not that ours picked up on our issue even though she had classic symptoms and had dropped 3 percentile lines from 87 to 25 but hey ho! 🙄) I like our HV system as although I need to make an appointment to have her weighed we always see the HV for this and they are also on the end of a phone or via text for questions which is super handy 😊 Mines been very patient with my worries about her feeding etc with all the issues we’ve had and I’m finally relaxing more 😀 x

I think 5 hrs is probably a long gap for such a young baby. Maybe give smaller bottles but more frequently?

The health visitor told me the guide on the box is just a guide at under months my little boy would have 19oz and breast milk in 3 hours... She told me to keep upping the feeds until you are at max. He got too hungry at 3 months and he has been on hungry baby ever since. He still eats more than average. And we had to wean him at 5 months because the health visitor said he is simply just too hungry. So don't worry, eating more is better than eating less. My monkey is over 20lbs and nearly 72cm and he isn't 6 months yet. I put it down to the fact my family are all broad and tall and so is his father. x
