Hi I know babies can pose up to 10 ./. If there birth weight in the first few weeks. Just keep eye on how often he feeds it’s hard to judge how much they get when bf but if your full before the feed and feel more empty at the end I think that’s all good. If you are concerned go to a baby weighing clinic or ur health visitor
Thank u its because he's not put on what he should in 5weeks and then lost but dipped right of the line he was following grr what to do
Do u have a health visitor local. Maybe another way could be express then you know what he’s having or go back to feeding every 3 hours like a new born.
There are things you can do. Is he happy between feeds? The hv will probably ask if he is having Wet nappies and how many and may even check the latch.
Ask your health visitor whether there is an infant feeding support team in your area. If so, contact them for support. If not, see if there’s a local La Leche League group nearby, you can contact a LLL leader for help and support. The LLL book is also really good- it is a thick book so it looks really daunting but actually it’s full of practical help. You can also ring the national breastfeeding helpline for support.
Finally, if you have the money, you could book a lactation consultant to give you some fantastic support to make sure you are optimising breastfeeding. They seem expensive but when you look at the cost of formula versus breastfeeding which is free, it doesn’t seem so expensive.
I personally found breastfeeding hard until she was six weeks and since then it’s been the easiest thing in the world. Your husband is right that breastmilk is much better than formula so if you can stick it out then do! The formula top up will be reducing your supply so personally I would be trying to reduce that but best to do so under guidance from a trained support worker.
