So I know that tax and national insurance is taken off of by your employer. I was just wondering if anyone knew how much you get and do they base it on your overall earnings for the year or the month you receive the pay? Also did people carry on paying their occupational pension or did they put it on hold?
Just trying to do some sums after getting my letter from my employer but I will be ringing them to confirm all this.
Thanks.

For the first 6 weeks you get 90% of your earnings then it’s £145 a week unless you earn less then you would get the lesser amount. It’s paid through your normal wages so same pay day as usual. When the 6 weeks 90% ran out for me I would either get £608 or £582 a month. I was still paying into my pension. I’m in the NHS so didn’t want to stop it but I think I was paying around £30/40 a month x
I actually didn’t find it too hard. Before I was pregnant we would put half my wages in savings anyway so when it came to maternity pay it was just as if I was on the same but obviously then couldn’t put any in savings. I suppose it all depends on what bills you have outgoing etc but I didn’t find it as bad as I expected x
This is helpful actually. I’ve calculated all the sums and I was also wondering if we would be entitled to working tax credit when on maternity leave? X
