Hi ladies, please could you advise on whether I can apply for working or child tax credits. For example, if my salary is £25,000 a year and I go maternity in March. If I get 90% of my pay for 1st 12 weeks and then statiatory maternity... what can I apply for and roughly how much would I get? Please help all a bit confusing... thank you xx

If your getting statutory pay from the start it’s only 90% for 6 weeks not 12 then the rest £145 a week. I think the child tax credit is being phased out and changing to universal credit and there is a calculator online. You can also claim child benefit which is £80 ish a month. Think that’s about it x

Thank you for clarifying... I’ve checked the calculator and it’s saying I’m not entitled to anything. Surely this can’t be right.. I thought we could claim something until we go back to work at least☹️

I can’t claim anything and I’m on slightly less than you. Surprisingly I haven’t found the money too bad. Each month (when I went on to the lower maternity) I got £582 or £608 in my pay. This was fine for us and half my money used to go into savings anyway x

Ohh ok...but it’s still not fair.. will have to survive but it’s so hard when you’re use to receiving a certain income... but having baby will mean way much more 😊😘

Yeah definitely not fair at all. Luckily baby doesn’t cost an awful lot unless your going to be like me and can’t resist cute clothes 😂. I’m finding it harder going back to work with nursery costs 😔 luckily I’ve saved a bit for nursery but when that runs out I’ll have to do more hours x

It’s based on last year’s tax year so if your not entitled this year next year you might be next year when including maternity pay obviously depending on earning. I don’t think it’s getting fazed out universal credit isn’t the same. And it’s based off both you and your partners wages.

Ohh I see... but if I’m back at work I can’t claim it... doesn’t make sense to claim then if your back on full wages.😬

It says on the gov website Child Tax Credit has been replaced by Universal Credit for most people. If it’s not replaced for certain people then you have to have 3 or more children. It’s all so confusing 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes you can claim cold tax credits if you work

You can claim working tax if you don’t earn a lot say your single parent I think it’s around £15k and you have to work 16+ hours. It’s a bit more for a couple but not sure how much.

Ohh I see.... so basically if you work earning over 15k and then go on mat leave you don’t qualify... I’m guna have to call them it’s all so confusing 🙈

You can’t claim for your 3rd child now the capped it to 2 a couple of years ago. I think universal credit is if you don’t work and claim benefits

Maybe if it’s a new claim it’s universal but I still get child tax credit and child benefit

That’s for working tax and if your single there’s different amounts and how many hour for couples etc

But yes ring them up see if you qualify better to be sure if your not entitled than to miss out even if it’s not much.

Depends on your area, if your in a universal credit area apply and see what you can get, you might get the child element once your earnings drop to statutory maternity pay as it’s based on earnings. I tried calculating and kept saying I’d get nothing but when I applied I did get something. I was on a fixed term contract so basically classed as unemployed now so I think that made a difference too.
