Epistomosy

Hi all, I had an epistomosy 4 weeks ago and forceps were used. I have a second degree tear. Is it normal to feel like a pulling pain towards the way you were cut? When I walk I have a pulling sensation towards the right as that's where I have been cut. I also have a hole near my pernium and ma due to see a specialist on Monday. It had puss in it before but I was given antibiotics. Just wondering if anyone else has had this hole and how long it took to close!! Also suffering from hard stools I have taken lactalose, stool softeners but nothing is working. Is this all normal! I am due to see my doctor on Friday but thought I would see if any of you ladies have had something similar x

I did have an episiotomy for my forceps and while I didn't have a hole I did have a nasty infection and the soreness/pulling took me 10 weeks to ease to tenderness. I had the opposite of hard stools but honestly everything is so messed up by your hormones right now, bum included. Have you tried eating the usual things like soft fruits etc and drinking lots to make it softer for you?

Maybe make sure you don't have an infection? My infection took 2 lots of antibiotics to get rid of.

Hope you're ok I remember how miserable it is with the episiotomy when you just want to enjoy your bubba xx

Thanks for your reply hun. I feel so alone with it and in a weird way am happy that you have felt the same! I thought the pulling to the right might be because my stitches were tight. But glad to know it does ease off. I will be 4 weeks this week. I booked an appointment with my doc for Friday to see what she can give me for the hard stools. I just want to go normally!! I feel so congested because I can't push the stools out (sorry for tmi!) But you are right it's affecting me looking after my baby. I just want to be normal again!! I took a tablet yesterday as the hospital said I had thrush and wanted me to see my gp to get medication. So I finally got that sorted! But it's the hole that needs to close now and the tightness feeling to go away!! Gosh it's hard recovering form labour! X

Hi KittyK. I've had an episiotomy and forceps and for about 2 weeks it felt sore. I also suffered with constipation and pain and some bleeding due to hard stools. What worked for me was prunes and at least 2 litres of water a day. Now the constipation is gone but I still make sure I eat fruit every day and drink enough water to avoid constipation. I hope things will get better for you soon.

I was cut and tore with my first I had ventouse I never looked as I was too afraid but if felt really sore it did heal I didn’t have any infection, but it doesn’t look the same as before I think the stitching wasn’t great. Keep an eye and speak to your doctor if you have concerns.

I totally know what you mean about being too afraid!! I've looked since and my stitches were wonky. Sad times for lady garden!

I think I can understand what you mean by pulling. Definitely mention it at your check up. I had an episiotomy and I noticed it still felt really uncomfortable over a week after birth so just mentioned it at one of my midwife check ups (was too afraid to look for myself but it was infected - cleared up easily with antibiotics).

Are you breastfeeding? That could be contributing to the hard stools. Make sure you're drinking plenty of water.

Hope everything is ok!

Thanks Hun! My midwife has dismissed us! They only visited twice and said they don't need to see us again. But I have booked an appointment to see my doctor on Friday. I am not breastfeeding but do need to drink more water! Just so hard with the baby to focus on me! I have been eating pears, figs, and having stool softeners but nothing is working. I think tomorrow I will fill up a bottle and keep it near me. I just want this pulling sensation so go when I walk!!

Sorry that's been your experience. I had such good peri and post natal care that I forget that's not everyone's experience! Hopefully tomorrow you'll get some support. With me the midwife took a swab and sent it off. I got a call the next day and then someone at the midwife team prescribed the antibiotics. I was still under midwife care though as only about 10 days pp.

Good luck tomorrow!

Thanks Hun! I went back to triage a week after labour as I was in so much pain sitting down I thought I had hemorroids. They took a swab off the hole that I have but it took them a week and a half to get the results to me. So yesterday was the first time I was given an antibiotic. Hopefully that helps but I will get it seen to. How long has it been for you since you gave birth? I am on week 4. Feel much better than the first few days but have a way to go! X

I had an episiotomy but not the problems you seem to have had. I did however suffer for a good few weeks with pooping, like you they were hard and I could go a few days without going but I really wanted too! I can assure you that will settle down with your hormones, I’m almost 10 weeks past birth and mine are now fine, only thing that is still a bit sore is my tailbone 🤷‍♀️ Oh and some thrush I can’t seem to get rid of.......what these babies do to us! x

So I tore during my labour internally and externally, it took longer for them to stich me up than what it took for me to push my baby out 😂 so I think I remember pulling sensation the drs told me every time I use the toilet to shower myself down to try and prevent infection which must of helped as I didn’t get any infections. I remember getting that pulling feeling during intercourse a lot even months later, I think it literally took like a year to fully get back to normal!!

Oh gosh Hun that sounds so painful!!! I went to the shops today and was walking around like I had something stuck up there!! I will speak to my doctors. I am dreading having intercourse for the first time after this had healed. I still feel sore!!! Hopefully I should feel normal after my maternity leave finishes lol x

I had this with both my births particularly bad with second as he was breech. The pain does wear off but you should get checked over and and possibly refer for physio. I had some muscle damage due to type of delivery so worth checking x

Thanks Hun! Did you have a pulling feeling? I feel like I am walking around like I have something stuck down there lol. I am worried but will see what the doctor says. After how long did it take for you to feel normal again x

in reply toNDE1987

Defo see the doctor as the feeling of something stuck there could be sign of slight prolapse. One of ways my physio described a prolapse was like a sensation of a stuck tampon falling out. Which is also common I believe after forceps delivery. Tho I'm no expert!

Hi I had stitches with both of my pregnancies. As someone has already mentioned I showered the area every time I went to the loo. This helped, I too had the uncomfortable pulling and couldn't walk properly. The pharmacist suggested applying sudocreme and drinking lots if water. This definitely helped and a week later the pulling had gone. Hope this helps, and hope you feel better soon 🙂

Hey Hun thank you for your reply. I know this is going to sound silly but where did you apply sudacream? I had a look and my stitches are still in place. After how long did the pulling pain go away. I do need to drink more water. X

sugar_vee profile image
sugar_vee in reply toNDE1987

Not silly at all, they suggested to apply it where the stitches are in case that was causing the pulling. Plus as it's an antiseptic cream may help keep infections away and really good to help with healing. My pain went away approximately by 6-8 weeks. But was still a little uncomfortable there for around 2-3 months X

Thanks Hun, I will give it a go. Can't do any harm!!! I honestly just want to feel better and enjoy motherhood. At the moment it's caring for the baby and trying to rest as much as I can x

Hi ladies I am just updating this post incase anyone else is in the same position as me! I went to the doctors today and she said the pulling sensation is the stitches healing inside. She checked me over and said it doesn't look like I have a prolapse. Which is what I was worried about. I guess the body just takes time to heal. For the toilet problem she has given me some tablets to put up the bum!! I thought I got rid of those from IVF days lol. X
