Hi Everyone, I am nearly 20 weeks pregnant and it's my first pregnancy , I am just worried about my result of Down syndrome. I did the combined test (CT) at week 17 and the result is 1.35% of increased risk and 98.65% of low risk, and I am scared to do the CVS or the Amniocentesis test because of their side effects. Not sure also to do the private Non Invasive test (NIT) £399 private blood test that NHS doesn't offer. Anyone been through this? please advice
Thank you!

Hi there, I did the NIPT only and didn't bother with the NHS test after. It's so much more accurate, but expensive! We also had 2 scans for that price too at a clinic in London on Harley Street (you can google it to find it pretty easily, not sure we can mention clinics by name on here)
It's well worth the money if you are at all concerned. My Sister in Law was given a 1/30 chance of Downs with the NHS and then had the private tests, they were much much more positive and her little girl has been born absolutely fine just recently.
I'm sorry I don't know more about the numbers in your test results as to whether its good or bad! I thought they just said High or low risk? Wishing you the best whatever you decide : ) x
Thank you so much LittleBlue34, really appreciated. The number in my test result is 1/74 chance of Downs. I think it is worth the sleepless night, thoughts and stress that I am having. I will try to do it (NIT). How long do you have to wait for the result.?
I see, I understand why you will be worried, but they base it so much on your age too. You wait 2 weeks for the NIPT test as the bloods go to America, so go sooner rather than later for peace of mind! But, like I said, my SIL had 1/30 and all fine. xx
