On Saturday i got a positive pregnancy test (clearblue) it told me I was 1-2 weeks. What do I do now? I called my doctors and they told me to register with my local hospital.. is this normal? I did register but I didnt have to enter my mobile number or enter any information about being pregnant.
You have to book an appointment with your gp to then be followed by the midwife team. I don't know what is that of local hospital... is like an orchard? Or a hospital with a maternity ward?
Thank you for taking the time to reply to me, much appreciated. I called my gp but they wont give me an appointment. They said to register with a midwife which I have done by filling in an online referral form. It then says that I have to wait until im between 8-12 weeks pregnant and someone will contact me to arrange my 1st appointment and a 12 week scan. I thought I would of seen a doctor to get it confirmed or something. Its scary as its my first and your just left to your own devices, I want to check everythings OK. x
I had my first baby 2 weeks ago, but like you I thought the doctor would confirm that I was pregnant... the only way they will tell you you are pregnant and that everything seems fine is at your first scan.. until then you just have the pregnancy test to rely on and on your gut feeling... I know it's scary but you can always ask in here or to the midwife if you feel something is not right, also don't be afraid of calling 111 if you have any doubt, I called then several times and they were always very helpful.. I would tell you to also register at the c&g club they were very helpful as well and you get mails every week with baby evolution and tips to cope with your changes...
Aww how lovely, congratulations! Thank you for your kind words, I just feel its such a long wait so it seems until you see a professional. I thought I would of gone to the GP and they would of done a pregnancy test and blood tests but now I see they dont! The first appointment when you see the midwife, do you take your partner with you? Or is it not necessary? I just hope the next few weeks go quickly so I can have my appointment. Thank you, I will take a look at the website x
You don't have to take your partner with you, but if he wants to go, or if you want him it's fine... that first consultation is to begin your process, I remember I got a lot of leaflets and peed into a thingy... mainly we just talked about pregnancy... one thing I did was writing down questions that I had to ask the midwife every time I had consultations... everything will be fine and in no time you will be able to know for sure, then the time will run by...
Hi I've experienced the same thing today, found out I was pregnant yesterday 4 weeks gone and rang my gp to get an appointment with my doctor, my doctor rang back and told me the next step would be a call from a midwife around 6-8 weeks to book a scan around 11-13 weeks. I guess they don't confirm it anymore but that's new to me. Congratulations!
Mines exactly the same I spoke to a teceptionist to fill out the form no need to see a gp anymore although I have cus I'm on medication that I wanted to stop (I'd actually already stopped it the minute I found out) but wanted to let them know don't worry that's how things are done these days they don't confirm a pregnancy till a 12 week scan now, scary I know that's why I've booked and paid for an early scan, it's this Saturday I can't wait I'll be 6w+6
I was just given a number by my GP to call the local midwife and arrange the booking appointment. The midwife will refer you to the hospital later, around 12 weeks, for your dating scan.
Hope that can maybe be helpful to you. Good luck and congratulations!

I live in England- Somerset, I phoned doctors surgery, receptionist put a pregnancy pack together containing a phone number for my first contact appointment which was at local hospital, as well as other info about smoking, blood tests, leaflets about breast feeding and also a big book which I had to fill in about medical history, personal info and so on... But every area will be different!
Also my first contact appointment was at 9 weeks they normally do them from 8-10 weeks, I didn't c any 1 before this! XxX
Thank you! Congrats to you too I live in Kent, so yes maybe all places are different. How long did you have to wait to see your midwife, what week was it? Im 4 weeks today but it seems to long to have to wait another 4+ weeks to see someone x
28 week bloods (hospital)- not everyone will have this but as my bmi was high I had to go for a diabetes tests. I think u still have bloods taken at 28 weeks app, but not everyone has diabetes test! Normally 28 week bloods would be taken at local doctors!
31 weeks, 34 weeks. 36 weeks, 38 weeks, 40 week all of these were with midwife at local doctors. And of u go over u should get apps at 41 and 42 weeks!
I had to wait until 16 weeks before I first saw midwife and heard heartbeat, where as some people get to hear a heartbeat at scans! Hope all this helps xx
Thank you! Your so helpful so according to your appointments I have approx 5 weeks to wait until I can see someone. I have seen that you can pay to have an early test at 6 weeks but I was wondering if it was a good thing to do. It looks to be once you have your initial appointment you have a fair few after that! Im just a bit anxious and impatient, think my hormones are all over the place! xx
I get that ur anxious, my first pregnancy ended in a missed miscarriage so the second time I got pregnant I was a nightmare, at 7 weeks I thought I was having another 1 so doctor referred me for a scan, thankfully she was fine however I think it's a waste of money paying for a scan as sometimes before 7/8 weeks they might not see a heartbeat (which can be normal) this may panic u more, also a lot of early scans r enternal! i found out at my 12 week scan baby had died at 10 weeks 4 days so if I had paid for a early scan at 8 weeks it would of shown everything fine, this would of made 12 week scan much harder after seeing baby alive and then to be told it was gone. But it's ur own choice-I'm just speaking from personal experience! X
Oh god poor you, thats so sad. Sorry to hear that I will wait, I just hope the next few weeks go quickly, I am feeling so tired so I could sleep the next 5ish weeks away! xx
That's ok these things happen! And I have my rainbow baby now. If the next couple weeks go slowly and u have the money for a scan might be best thing for u. I guess I just have a negative views of scans! Best of luck with everything, hope time goes quickly for u! X
Have a look at the NHS choices websites there a lot of info there. Just don't think about pregnancy as a medical condition, it's not, it a natural part of life which luckily goes well in the majority of times.
Be sensible don't smoke don't drink and eat healthily and start a pregnancy vitamin supplement.
The doctor won't confirm your pregnancy as the urine home tests are as good as the ones they have. The midwife will take bloods at your first appointment and that mainly to check for blood borne infections and your blood level.
Thanks, il have a look. I dont smoke, I drink prob once month but I stopped drinking when we was TTC so obviously now I would never drink, I also eat mostly healthy too. Yeah I have read that the home tests are so accurate that the doctors wouldnt need to do one.
I'm in Hants and couldn't get an appointment with the midwife till 10 weeks but that's because I pushed for it as we were had ivf.
There are no tests or anything done till 10-12 weeks as unfortunately if anything goes wrong there is nothing they can do.
I had a private scan at 8 weeks just to make sure all looked ok. It cost about £89 and it was amazing to see the heartbeat and know all was as it should be at that point. If you Google early pregnancy scan you can see if there's one near you.
I took my husband to the midwife booking appointment as they had questions about his medical history aswell.
Nhs choices website has lots of information about foods to avoid etc
