4 weeks pregnant trying to stop smoking. Help!!
Check here and you could visit a smoking cessation clinic.
Thank you for your help. X
I'd also call midwifery services r your gp, as it will be quicker if they know you are pregnant, and there might be a specific smoking midwife
I haven't made any one aware I.e doctor midwife. When is the best time to book to book in and see them now ? X
You can see your GP at any point, but I think if just about the smoking bit I'd ask reception for contact info as the GP will probably just do that.
They won't normally book in to see you with MW, but they can give you info about the smoking bits, if you cant get that via GP. Re. booking in with MW (they normally see you at 8-12weeks) I'd check with the surgery as well. Some areas you need to book via GP first, but in my area they just gave me a number to call MW and they booked my in directly
Please please please - get a book! "The easy way to quit smoking" by Allen Carr. I read the book and I stopped immediately after I've finished. Especially, if you're struggling now, the book doesn't make you stop and suffer from fighting from will power struggles and withdrawal pangs. The book is short and easy to read and you can smoke along reading. But because it's short, it will take less time and be more successful way than any other! I stopped in Jan this year (took me 2 weeks to read as I wasn't rushing due to fear of loosing the beloved cigarette - silly me!). I felt pregnant in March probably due to not smoking too as we tried for over a year, so my first baby is due in December
You won't regret trying the book, I recommended it to my friend who smoked 2 packs a day! And she quit half way through the book even tho she didn't have to. You will enjoy reading it as everyone else who I know that did and stopped smoking.
Good luck with quitting and pregnancy
Jola
Thank you so much , can I purchase the book from pretty much any where ? I will have a look online. I'm more determined than ever too stop now. I hope this book helps x
Yes, pretty much anywhere the book has 90% success ratio, as well as clinics and audio books. You will be surprised and happy, and thn will wonder why NHS doesn't help people by recommending it all in the book will surprise you. You can now do it, don't waste time and get it, I wish I was told about it years ago... X
I was recently in your position I also have a six and two year old, I spoke to the doctor and they told me to contact stop smoking wales. I saw an advisor once a week who helped me quit. It was so easy and yet I struggled so much trying to quit on my own. Best thing I ever did. I'm now 14 weeks pregnant and have been an official non smoker for two month's.
Good luck Emma you can do this! X
I hope this doesn't sound corny, but when you go to have a smoke, ask yourself "why am I smoking?". When i gave up, it was because i realised the reason I was smoking - I was actually anxious, felt like i was going to pop if i didn't have one. I was working for the Police, on a break and i couldn't get to my smokes fast enough. As I was smoking, (in a stinky smokers shed), it dawned on me...I was smoking toxins into my body to try and make myself feel better, because i was stressed, which was hurting my body too! But I didn't want to hurt my body! I want to be healthy and stay young hehe. I could'nt believe i hadn't thought like that sooner! Right then i stopped, smack bang, didn't even finish my smoke, or the packet! Every time i kind of felt like one after, i just thought of that stinky smokers shed and that stress and my anxiety was the only reason I kept running to the smokes. The 'need' for one goes away as soon as you shift your mind, the physical dependency will be easy to fight off after that too
Yay congrats on number 3 coming to you soon - extra stress again, but once you find how to deal with your own stress reactions, you'll be better off all round forever!! xo
As someone who quit recently it has to come from you. If your partner or friends smoke ask them for support by not smoking anywhere near you or giving you fags. In addition read whatever you can, eat what you like and every time you think you want one put it to the back of your mind. You will get cross, you will find it hard, but keep going. Also take your fag money and put it in a piggy bank every time you've not smoked a fag. 50p a fag is the going rate! Then say that money is for your child. Your reward is reducing your risks of dying young and leaving your child without a parent!
