Eek! First pregnancy...

Hello everyone,

Just booked my appt with GP for next Monday after an anxious wait over the bank holiday! My partner and I had talked about starting a family for most of last year and finally decided it was time in January. Last period was mid Feb, so when the next one didnt happen I did a test and it said positive. My partner is proper excited :-) bless him.

I couldn't work out how many weeks gone I was.... Did the nhs date calculator and it said four, but when I looked at the calendar (a website i read said count from first day of last period) I thought it was six.... I've had nausea for last four days, where I cant really focus on anything and keep having to lie down. Really looking forward to talking with GP and working out where I'm at!

Also feels like I'm imagining things a bit....!

Not sure when we'll tell family... I kinda want some confirmation or proof first! We want to make it a special announcement but I think his family is already suss as we went for a family meal Saturday and I didn't drink at all... Although I don't drink lots, it's unusual for me not to have one glass with dinner!

Not sure really what the point of my post was.... Just wanted to share my thoughts as I don't have anyone other than my partner to tell at the moment!

Congratulations! Didn't take you too long of trying, you must be delighted! Your due date is usually based on when you last had a period, not from ovulation. Then when they scan you they will take measurements and the due date could shift a little. I think it's mainly because most women can't pinpoint exactly when they ovulate so they go back a few weeks to when you last had a period. You're basically pregnant for 40 weeks.

Regarding telling people, most women will wait until after the first scan when they know all is well. This is mainly because of miscarriage risk in the first trimester. But it can be helpful to tell just close family who you know won't tell the whole world just yet. That way, if something were to happen you would have support ready for you. Everyone is different though, so do what feels right.

First trimester is hard with the nausea and tiredness. I didn't know what tiredness was until I became pregnant! If you can take afternoon naps it would help a lot. Things improve a lot in the second trimester and you should have less nausea and feel relatively more energetic.

Best of luck - wish you a healthy pregnancy!

congratulations!! Until your scan, you can work out the weeks from the first day of your last period.
