Possibly being induced. Advice please.

Hi I'm currently 36+5. Got an consultant appointment tomorrow to find out what the plan is... I've been into the maternity triage 7 times with reduced movements and the doctors have said to consider an induction at 38 weeks as they are not sure why I keep having episodes of reduced movements when I go in and get checked on the monitors baby is fine...

Had growth scans and extra scans to check placenta and fluid levels etc...

And everything's fine. Although he was on the small side but seems to have put the weight on over the past 2 weeks he's now 6lb "APPARENTLY"

So has any one else been induced? What happens? Is it more painful than starting naturally? This is my first baby. Don't know what to expect.

I was induced with my first child. They put some gel inside you to ripen the cervix. They give it I think it was 24 hours to work and if it doesn't they repeat it. Mine worked after about 10 hours. Having it done doesn't hurt at all.Try not to worry it will all be okay andyou

will soon be holding your little one x

Hope your appointment went well hun and helped put your mind at rest.

I was induced at 40+5 with Niamh.

They put a gel pessary in a gauze called prostaglandin between your cervix and membrane that holds the waters in first, that stays in 24 hours, if that doesn't work, they try a quicker releasing pessary which lasts 7 hours I think, which they will repeat if there is still no sign. After that its the oxytocin drip.

I wouldn't know if its anymore painful than a naturally starting labour as I've only had one baby. And I'm not going to tell you my labour story as every woman labours differently and copes with the pain differently. Just keep an open mind, listen to your body. If you need pain relief, ask for it. Whatever happens its all worth it! Remember a lot of women do it again, sometimes more than once! Babies are gorgeous! 😘😍

I won't discuss how it's done as that's already been discussed previously. I will say that if things don't progress at the rate they're happy with (depending on frequency and strength of contractions) they'll also break your waters (unless they go on there own) which isn't as bad as it sounds, just feels a little weird.

I went naturally with my first, was induced with my second at 42weeks and opted for induction at 40wks (should have bn 39wks) with my 3rd as I had gestational diabetes. Tbh both natural and induction have there pros and cons, but induction isn't too bad or I wouldn't have opted for it with my 3rd.

With my natural, labour was so long that by the time he was in the birth canal I was utterly exhausted and his arm was up over his head but we got there in the end. My second and third was much shorter but they say the more you have the faster baby comes. As lottyB has said, as its your first you'll have nothing to compare it with so that's a big positive really. the hardest bit is not knowing what to expect but hearing other people's stories will only amplify your concerns, so try to relax and enjoy the last bit of pregnancy and when you start to feel a little worried just think about what you will achieve at the end.

I was induced 5 weeks ago at 39 weeks because of high BP.

The process itself was very straightforward and simple and it took about 3 hours before i could feel twinges of things and labour was beginning to start.

I have no idea what to compare it to as this was my first baby but everyone was amazing and we were incredibly well looked after. I ended up with a c section but we have a beautiful happy little boy and that's the most important thing 😃😃

Good luck x
