No weight gain...?

I'm 27 weeks and haven't put on any weight at all. I look pregnant now (well, still quite small according to family, friends, and co-workers, but enough of a tummy to merit me starting to search for maternity leggings, and it definitely looks like I've stuck a football under my top).

I never got morning sickness, and have always had a big appetite - I've probably eaten more chocolate now than since I was at uni and put on the fresher's stone (and the rest).

I'm starting the 3rd trimester now, but have read that usually you put on a pound a week during the 2nd trimester.

I know that everyone is different and hardly any pregnancy books/websites will talk about ideal or normal figures when it comes to pregnancy weight gain (thank goodness), but I can't help wondering why I'm getting such a round bump now without any weight gain. Muscle atrophy? Losing fat?

Anyone else gone through this? Did you pile it on at the end? When did you start noticing your weight increase faster?

I was the same. I never gained any weight throughout my pregnancy but I gained a healthy and happy baby boy who is one years old now

With my first pregnancy, I was pretty much the same. I lost weight during the first tri due to sickness and then seemed to gain very little if any during the 2nd. I was also eating plenty and like you I am pretty sure it was down to replacing muscle with fat! I was pretty fit before my first pregnancy (not like now!) and so I had a lot of muscle mass to lose. Until the last month or so I just looked like normal me with a massive bump but I certainly put on weight during my 3rd tri and gave birth to a baby just shy of 7lbs, so it was all good.

I'm also 27 weeks with my second pregnancy and, well, it's pretty different this time - gained about 10lbs-12lbs already!

Sure that your body is doing just what it needs to do :-)

Im the same as you, in fact I weigh lessznow than I did before I was pregnant.

Hi, I was the same with both my pregnancies I hardly put on weight and had round bumps, and both times I measured and looked "small" according to the midwife, family, friends and colleagues but I now have an amazing 3yr old boy and a 9wk old baby girl and they are both healthy and happy.

After both mine were born I lost my bump straight away (it looked like I had been deflated lol) my belly was almost flat just a little more wobbly than normal, I am back in my normal jeans now would have been sooner but I had some post pregnancies problems.

Just think the less you put on the less you have to lose after. (Just make sure you are eating a healthy varied diet and you'll be fine)

This is from experience....please try not to worry about looking or being "small" if for any reason your midwife is concerned they will send you for a scan I spent weeks of my last pregnancy worrying about being "small" and when my baby girl was born at 37+3 (induced as I had reduced movements) my bump measured 33.5cm and my baby girl was born weighing 7lb 1oz and healthy.

Not what you're looking for?
