Hi,

You'll probably be offered at least one sweep first. Your midwife will discuss with you the options for inductions, but they don't usually like to induce straightaway unless there is a definite reason to. X

I second this, they will not induce without good reason.

All the best x

They like you to go at least 10 days before they induce you to give you a chance to labour naturally. I went to 42 weeks as I was due 21/12/13 but it didn't happen so because of Xmas and new year they let me go till the 3rd jab and I had my son on the 5/1/14 when he eventually decided to make an appearance.

looking back i'd rather have not been induced as I didn't think it was the nicest experience or the way inthought i would have my son but everyone's is different and so are their experiences. Good luck with it all X

I wouldn't rush into induction unless there's a good reason. My induction was pretty horrible, 2 days of labour followed by c section. I agree everyone has their own experience, some people have good inductions. Best of luck!

Induction is not a nice experience. You miss out on all the early contractions that build up towards the strong ones during active labour and go straight to mega painful. It isn't kind to your body or baby (though necessary and valid sometimes). Ask for a sweep, but bear in mind that if baby is not ready, it won't work, and you can only have 3. My advice would be wait a while, and in the meantime try to do things that help you feel more comfortable, like swimming or walking, or sleeping. You won't have any chance in a week or two when baby comes!

As the other ladies/replies have mentioned an induction is usually performed under certain or detrimental factors that maybe putting an unborn baby at risk.

All expectant/pregnant women are usually given roughly 2wks after your EDD for the baby to make an appearance, if the baby is still then not showing any signs of being born you will then be offered a very mild dose of induction such as a pessary or etc....

I was induced two weeks ago and whilst it was a good experience and the midwives were great and our daughter was non the worse for it it isn't a very natural option. I was tethered up to monitors and drips and couldn't really move about and despite the best of care it felt like a sterile unnatural way to have a baby and I was quite sad to have missed the experience of a natural lab our. It,s not always like that but it could be so really worth thinking about carefully
