My little one is only 3 weeks old and last night slept through the night. Is this wrong, am I just lucky or should I be waking her for a feed ? Xxx

At what age should baby sleep through the night ?
My LO did that on and off and it totally freaked me out!!! I used to wake up worrying every few hrs and to check she was ok. But I did just leave her to sleep. i don't know whether thats right or wrong. I just let her do what she wanted regarding sleep in the early days.
I doubt it will last so enjoy the extra bit of sleep for now x
my Lo is now 5 months and wakes 1-2 times a night x
Personally I wouldn't wake her, they say you should feed on demand and if she is sleeping through she is not demanding. I'm not sure what the official stance would be though, if your worried ask your health visitor maybe? X
I would personally speak to your HV as I have a friend whose baby would not wake for feeds and she would have to set an alarm to get her up to feed. Babies need feeding frequently as their tummies are so small at this age. As important as sleep is to you, your babies growth is more so x
I agree with cheekymonkey3791 my LO slept through the night from around 6 wks but I used to wake him and feed him as I was uneasy about him going so long without milk, I was very lucky and it never disrupted his sleeping patterns then or now as he still sleeps through now and he is two and a half, I just have to hope this little one will be just as easy
Hi! My first baby, who is now nearly 12 years old slept through the night more or les regularly from 4 weeks old... I never woke her up, I was grateful for the sleep and she was thriving during the day and eating lots of breastmilk and gaining weight. I honestly would not wake your baby up unless the weight gain was dropping or anything like that. My girl was then followed by a boy who is now 8 years old who didn't sleep properly until he was about one and a half so the difference nearly killed me at the time!!! I now have an 8 weeks old little girl who wakes up once a night for a feed which lasts about 10 minutes (about 60 mls) and then she's asleep again and off for the rest of the night. All babies are different so I wouldn't worry. Good luck and enjoy your sleep!! x
Maybe speak to a HV just to see, but I don't think I'd wake her....my little one slept through from very young too and I just let it happen and he is absolutely fine growth and health wise. I fed on demand and that worked for us. Do what you feel you need to do once you have spoken to a professional and balance it up with how you feel as a mummy
Hiya Kerry,
I wouldn't say it's unusual for 3 wk old baby to sleep through the night but at such a young tender age she should really be feeding at least every 4 to 5 hours " maximum" to ensure she's getting the right amount of nutrients in her blood stream.
Are you breast or bottle/formula feeding?
If you're bottle feeding you could possibly try by giving her just a little less Ounzes so that way she'll want to wake up for her feed.
xx
I fed on demand, but the HV told us not to let it go past 4hrs at the beginning.
Really a baby shouldn't be going longer than 4 hours without a feed before 6 weeks old. People think babies will wake and cry if they are hungry but it isn't always the case. Babies often stay asleep if they are hungry , especially in the early weeks, as waking up and crying uses up energy they don't have.
