My 2month old doesn't drink anywhere the required 30onz on the tin.

We have swapped formulas (on the health visitors suggestion) because Jess couldn't digest the lactose in the normal sma so now she's on cow and gate comfort. On sma she wasn't drinking the 25onz in 24hrs that they say from 2months but the cow and gate says she should be drinking 30onz in 24hrs. Yesterday she only took 17onz. She won't drink more than 3onz at a time (the tin says 6onz 5times a day) but isn't asking for it more often.

I've tried force feeding her it but she just falls asleep keeping her mouth tight shut.

I'm going to try and find a clinic to get her weighed today as I'm worried she's not drinking anywhere near enough.

Any advice?

Hey, I think getting her weighed is a good starting point just to see how she's progressing.

I'm pretty certain my son wasn't drinking anywhere near those amounts until he was about 3 months? On the aptamil box here it suggests somewhere between 25 and 30oz but that's for 8 to 12 weeks and she's only just 8 weeks?

All babies have different appetites and they're only guidelines. I'd say if she was hungry she'd def let you know!!!!xx

has your daughter had her 6 - 8 wk check usually carried out by your registered G.P ?

If so was there any cause for concern regarding her weight at this appointment?

My advise is if she seems to be drinking or at least feeding every 2 - 3 hours she,s probably getting what she wants from it, and even though you may not be noticing it she,s probably gaining weight very slowly.

most of the requirements that are stated on the sides of formula tins are usually just estimates, or suggestions and are not for what every child goes by.

How many bottles do u make up? I'd always make 6 and if they wanted the extra then it was there. .. but if I remember rightly when I fed my last (he is nearly 6) it was 6 feeds in 24 hours. .. They have very small tummys so little and often is the key... then asthey sleep thru the night u up the oz and drop a bottle. ..I'm bf now so have no idea how much he takes have to go by his weight! Def speak to ur hv of ur concerned hope they put ur mind at rest x

I would not worry about what the formula bottle says as they always over estimate just to get you to buy more.

I'm just beginning to move from breastmilk to formula.

my HV told me yesterday that you do their weight in kg, times 150, divided by the no of feeds they normally have a day.

so my LO wad 5.6kg 2wks ago. × 150 ÷ 7 = 119ml .

so I need to give her 7 4oz (119ml) feeds

So are you making 7 x 4oz feeds a day? Jess is 5.5kg so not far off your LO.

I'm doing combination feeding. I make about 5 oz feed but she's still getting used to the bottle and only takes 3oz max from it at the moment x

I really wouldn't worry as long as she is gaining weight and is happy and content, then just carry on as you are xx

I had her weighed today. She's 13lbs 12onz so she's defo putting it on as she was 9lbs 7onz 3and a half weeks ago.

She's drank more so far today than she had this time yesterday so less concerned now.

Blimey! How big was she when she was born? Mine was 5.7kg (12lb 10) at 13 weeks lol she was 3.4kg (7lb 10) at birth. Yes, you haven't got any concerns there as she is def putting on weight
