Hiya, you're probably just retaining a bit of fluid. Have you been on your feet more than usual? You should always report swelling to your midwife ASAP - it *can* be a sign of pre-eclampsia, have you also had any headaches?
I'm sure its nothing to worry about, particularly so early on, so please don't panic or anything but it's worth giving her a call. Other than that, try to keep your feet elevated as much as you can and it's a good excuse to start demanding foot rubs x
I agree with the comment that "dons88" said
Its probably nothing much to panic about but it's always best to notify either your Community midwife or G.P about any sort of swelling around the ankles.
My legs were like trunks! The oedema was so bad it was pitting. In the last 4 weeks I tried to keep legs elevated as much as possible but to be honest I only ever saw a difference overnight & within a few hrs it would look really bad again. My OH used to call me 'Professor' Clump. i'll be honest it was painful at its worst as skin so stretched. I wore flip flops as was summer, feet out great but ankles on display, not so,vyour not going to be as lucky as its wet n yukky.
Best you can do is:
Get legs up for about 10 mins with ankles higher then heart.
Lay on your left to help drain the fluid
Drink plenty of water
There is also info on the NHS website.
Since giving birth i have my ankles, calves & knees back. Still carrying extra weight on my thighs but thats probably pregnancy fats Xx
