Really need advise.. Have had a hernia since I was little and past week have been very very ill and has become very sore..

Hello, I have had a hernia since I was a little girl, I had kind of forgotten it over the last two years as it had stopped popping out just over the top of my belly button.

The last week I have been quite ill and developed quite a bad cough. Everytime I cough or sneeze it becomes very sore and has started protruding just out the top of my belly button.

I can now feel it when I'm breathing, it's not sore but more uncomfortable. I phoned the doctors(who may I add are useless around my area and you usually only get an appointment if your arm is hanging off). I tried to get an appointment for this week but of course they had none and I'm apparently not a medical emergency according to the receptionist. Should I be worried and try and get checked over today possibly? Has anyone else ever had a hernia within pregnancy?x

Hi hun bless ya, our gp surgery isn't great either-think it's their trade mark lol.i don't think it will pose any problems in pregnancy. If you can't get a app with gp could you call your midwife and see what she says xxx

Hi

ive personally never experienced having a hernia with or without pregnancy but if its making you feel uncomfortable its best to get it checked out.

I know at times my G.P's can also be "bloody useless" & i find myself visiting an NHS walk in centre (type of surgery) they can also be known as rapid response clinics.

I'd personally go with your gut feeling if its not yet painful you could try making an normal appointment to see your g.p (which may take a few days) or if your passed the 16th wk of pregnancy you can also contact your local maternity unit for advise.

xx

I'm 24+1 now. I'm just worried as it has become painful doing normal things! But I'm a worrier anyway!!x

I also worry about the Lil' things too (as im sure many pregnant women do)

But see if you can find a local NHS quick response surgery on the NHS website for example & maybe you'll be able to get at least some medical advise of the best thing you can do.

xx

I have a good one in my area & whenever i go there to see a doctor / nurse im seen within 5-10mins of submitting my details

I'd ring ur midwife if ur not getting any joy any soreness or pain should be checked and ur pregnant so u are a priority what is wrong with these bloody people! X

Can you still push it back into your abdomen?

If it hurts, it could be 'obstructed' - I think you should get it checked out, as it's not a medical emergency, but is a surgical one!

If the GP is not responding I would go to the maternity A&E at the hospital for a check out on the spot!

I was able to push it back in but it won't go back now :( it's quite sore and very uncomfortable, feeling a lot of pressure where it is! X

I had the same when i was a baby, exactly the same place aswell just above my belly button. I am now on my 2nd pregnancy and sometimes the hernia becomes really sore to touch, its nothing to worry about. During my first pregnancy i was fretting incase it popped out when i cough etc, but dont worry, the baby has hardly any room therefore things like what we have tend to protrude more. Honestly i cannot believe i have met someone with the same thing in exactly the same position .im 31 weeks pregnant

A sore hernia is ALWAYS something to worry about, until strangulation has been ruled out by a doctor!!!
