Depression in pregnancy

I am 10 weeks pregnant and cannot stop crying. I keep feeling that I cannot cope, I have horrific dreams and am full of worry about the future. If I feel so horrid, have I made a terrible mistake? I don't know what to do for the best.

Have you seen your midwife yet? talk to them about it. They will be able to help, explaining all your options, and offer help with coping. It's a very emotional time and your body's going through a lot so take your time and speak to the midwife x

Thanks joda. I saw my midwife a few weeks ago, she said what I am experiencing is normal mood swings, but it feels worse than this somehow. Maybe I should try to explain again. Thanks for the advice. X

I Get severe pmt but I still have mood swings being pregnant. ...I felt the same as u worried about things like if my children died... its horrible but it does get betteri felt better when I got to about 16 weeks then have been feeling good up until last week when I felt pmt again! U should see ur g.p if ur getting that bad x

You're definetely not alone in feeling these emotions, so its important not to feel guility with yourself.

I'm currently 26wks with my 2nd child & I get so emotional some days to the point of crying hysterically.

Do you have any close friends & family you can talk to about your emotions?

Sometimes just being able to get it off your chest can help & I'm sure as the pregnancy progresses you'll find it gets easier to handle.

xx

You poor thing, this sounds horrible. You are not alone at all, and you have so many hormones whooshing round your body. I really think you should talk to your GP, or your midwife again.

I am so sorry about how you feel. I think we all sympathise one way or another. The hormones bring horrible mood swings. The good news is that the NHS takes depression in pregnancy very seriously. Please explain to your midwife how bad it is. Apart from medication they also offer access to counselling which really helps.
