Advice please.

Hi ladies. I've never really had a regular toliet routine but its now been 5 days since I've opened my bowels. I've tried the usual good diet and giving myself plenty of time etc but so far no luck.

Tomorrow we're driving to Austria and camping for a week. (Wouldn't be too upset not needing to go on the drive or whilst camping to be honest).

Any ideas on how I might get my bowels to finally open before 4am on Saturday? ???

Prunes and liquorice!

Try eating a few portions of fruit a day. I used to have a similar problem as I used to eat foods which maybe contained more starchy ingredients.

I 'm also not really into eating things like prunes or liquorice items so that was a NO, NO For me.

Me neither!! Vile! But hugely effective!

Not sure about lactulose - I stopped prescribing it a while back as can give you really severe crampy abdominal pain if you are really blocked up...

Thanks for the advice. Might give prunes a miss too.

Think I'll get some lactolose on way home from work.

Thanks again

prune juice (like maybe a whole carton of it or even more) and squatting plus you can try some acupressure tips from youtube while you are on the toilet.

and also if you are up the 12 weeks mark maybe temporarily discontinue your iron and folic acid tab, till your bowls are normal

Thanks everyone. Its amazing how much better you feel once you can go. Well I'm off on my holidays now (3am) hope your all well.

Your GP will probably give you lactulose or macrogols. Better to get a prescription than over the counter to be sure you are safe. Other than that make sure you drink loads of water, eat loads of fruits and vegetables and high fibre cereals. Regular pregnancy safe exercise can also help to keep your bowels regular.

I have IBS and obviously had to stop taking my meds now that 'Baby Nutella' is with us. The dr put me on Fibogel and Lactulose, and despite being very unimpressed at the time, they have made a big difference! Just make sure that you have plenty of water with the lactulose as it needs water to bulk out your poo....nice.
