I am slightly confused by your question but if I have read it correctly, are you saying that you are trying to get pregnant but worried about taking antihistamines at the same time? I'm not a doctor but I am 20 weeks pregnant and taking antihistamines for my hayfever. Don't get them over the counter, you need to get a prescription from the doctor - you should never take anything over the counter without consulting your doctor first.

Or do you mean that you are coughing and have been given antibiotics? If so then the antibiotics will interfere with contraception so the short answer would be yes - you can get pregnant...so if you don't want to get pregnant, I would abstain from intercourse until after your course of antibiotics has finished.

Hope this helps a little bit. x

Oh thank you very much for your reply. sorry about confusing question. you read first part correctly. We are trying for baby but since my hayfever started I have very bad cough and i am so worried that I will not conceive and I also take cetirizine tables daily which is presicrbed by doctor.

I did some research and found out that antihistamin is not good while trying to conceive and should be refrained from for 2 weeks while trying to conceive.

Were you taking anihistamin while trying to conceive?

Ah I see - ok well I understand now. I wasn't taking Antihistamine at the time of conception...but I was on the contraceptive pill, so I think you have to take certain information with a pinch of salt sometimes.

I found this information on the internet:

Antihistamines

Benadryl, Allegra, Claritin, and other antihistamines can all interfere with ovulation by blocking the action of histamine, a chemical that not only defends the body against foreign substances and infection, but also plays a role in releasing an egg from the ovary and implanting it in the womb. These drugs are effective at relieving the symptoms of an allergic reaction, but they may also halt conception. “If you’re trying to get pregnant, it’s best to avoid antihistamines from mid-cycle until your period,”

If I were you, I would weigh up the pro's and con's i.e. having a cough won't stop you getting pregnant, the only that can really stop someone getting pregnant is not having sex. But if the cough is bareable for the time being, I would stop taking the cetirizine tablets to increase your chances of conception.

Also, I would read the leaflet that came with the medicine.

My one piece of advise would however be to relax and not to put too much pressure on yourself to conceive - friends of mine were trying for ages and becomming really sad that they weren't getting pregnant. As soon as they stopped trying they conceived!

Good luck x
