Yes, It's normal. Pregnant women in the U.K are generally only offered 2 ultrasound scan to check the baby's well-being and 1, or in some cases 2 other midwife appointments.

Unless you or the baby's health may be at risk due to occurring complications you will then be offered more scans or ante-natal appointments.

oh! I agree with you - care in other countries is so much better. Primarily because they dont depend on public health system and those who can afford can afford the best - there is definitely no rationing or lining up for essential services.

The only problem is that with such huge populations of the developing country, the no. of doctors we need in that part of the world is still a lot.

And BTW the drug companies in Developing world are also able to manufacture essential drugs cheaply (because we dont patent the technology and the Govt. gives high subsidy and take no tax from private companies producing essential drugs). :)

You should have been seen by your midwife at 25 weeks, then 30-32 weeks. Might be worth calling them to make sure an apt letter didn't go missing in the post...

i would maybe phone your drs surgery or maternity unit depending on where you see your midwife has i know in my area you see the midwife more than once by the time you get to 30 weeks has i am sure they redo your bloods again around 26-28 weeks. i had gestastional diabetes so had more scans and monthly appointments.

Seems every area is different. I received an itinerary at my booking appointment advising who I will see at certain weeks of my pregnancy. From 22 weeks onwards, I will see the midwife at my GP's surgery every 2 to 3 weeks until the baby is born...

How many weeks pregnant were you when you came to the UK? You should have had more than 1 appointment with the midwife if you were here at the beginning of your pregnancy. 2 scans are normal unless there is a problem but I am guessing they haven't found one so not referred you for further scans.

I know the hospital you are booked at very well - worked there a few years ago (my favourite hospital of my training to date :-) )

Your midwife ANC schedule is in your maternity notes - you need to call them as you have definitely missed midwife appointments...

Just tell them you've only seen the midwife once, and you notice from your schedule you should have had other appointments - they will be fine :-)

Which obstetrician are you booked under? X

Are you seeing the midwife at the hospital or at a local clinic. Call the number I gave tomorrow - it's the midwife co-ordinator, so will be able to either sort you out there and then or give you the correct mobile for your relevant community team. I'm send you a message with the name of the lady to ask for - she's lovely!!!

They won't think you are complaining. I'm ' high risk' and only clocked today that my midwife didn't contact me as promised with a time/date for my next apt - that was over three weeks ago, and I'm supposed to be seen weekly - I called my team and all sorted now:-)
