had my first midwife meeting today and really disliked her. can i change?
Your in the same boat as me. My old midwife retired and I was her last appointment after I had my 2nd baby and it was very emotional (hormones on my part). The midwife that has taken her place is too airy fairy for me, I like straight talking people not faffy.
I asked the receptionist at my GP if I could see someone else and she said 'there is no one else'. I even asked in the hospital if I can go straight to there midwifes but they dont do that kind of care now they have cut the staff. Well gutted. Ask at your surgery if there is 2 midwifes. There is no harm and she wont know.
i investigated this earlier in the week as i really dont like mine, apparently there is 2 midwifes at my docs and you get assigned a certain one depending on which day you chose to attend your first appt, im not overly happy with my docs anyway apart from the doc ive most recently seen. My cousin has a one year old and she said her midwife was brilliant no beating around the bush and straight to the point. She rang her to see how i could maybe see her instead and basically it all depends on your doctors surgery so drastic action but i would have to fill in a form to change doctors and then she said to give her a call to get booked in

As long as there is more than one midwife you should be able to change. I know people who have changed midwives as they just didn't get on with their first one. I had a great midwife with my first so I specifically asked for her again this time. My health visitor has just retired though and I now live in an area where I don't like the health visitor so I may be kicking up a fuss after the baby is born! Good luck!!
