BOWEL PROBLEMS AND DIET

Hi everyone, I hope I am allowed to post this on here....

For just over the last 2 weeks I have been following to the letter the Fast 800 diet by Michael Mosely. Obviously in an attempt to lose weight and reduce my blood sugar. However, another benefit I have noticed is that has definately helped my bowel problems. Before starting this it was rare I would leave the house before at least mid day and having gone to the loo at least 3/4 times. However, this has now completely changed for the better and even after such a short time I am confident to leave the house almost anytime. I know we are all different but this is making such a big difference to me.

That’s really interesting!

I’m not familiar with this diet is there a specific aspect of food that is avoided?

Just worth pointing out that it’s always best to consult with your doctor before taking on a diet in case others are thinking of trying this. We are all different and our triggers may well be different.

Great that it’s working for you though.

If you're under a dietitian or gastroenterologist definitely feed back this effect it’s had on your bowel.

Hi - it's mainly carbs and sugar to be avoided unless they are natural ones in meat/fish/vegetables. i.e. there is a recipe for avocado on toast, the toast can be sourdough/rye or similar. I love this recipe. So I am now eating more healthily with meat/fish lots of veg and salad - alas no wine but lots of water. About 18 months ago I was borderline diabetes 2 so this will also get my blood sugar down. I didn't have a blood sugar test this year because Covid got in the way, so hopefully when I do have one my blood sugar will be down. I didn't consult with my doctor as I am not on any medication but yes for others who are, obviously a good idea to consult with your doctor, agree yes we are all different. At the moment though I am highly delighted with this unexpected side effect. Dr. Michael Mosely is a well known highly regarded GP and Scientist in the UK -( not sure where you are). I just thought it was worth a mention on here without necessarily promoting the diet but this unexpected side effect for me. Hope this helps anyway.

Hi Daisy, i too have had success with diet changes. I went keto with restricted veggies to eliminate fibre and then had to go to an adapted carnivore diet to avoid inflammation from veg, fruit, legumes, grains etc and fibre. glad its working for you. Definitely avoiding sugar and carbs has a positive effect on gut and intermittent fasting daily. take care

Hiya accidental carnivore, wow that is so good to know it's helping somebody else and thank you so much for putting a note on here.

I am now on Week 22 of my change of eating. Ok so initially I did it to get some weight off and my blood sugar down which I've definately achieved the weight bit and hopefully the blood sugar bit though I won't know until I get tested whenever but I reckon it must have come down.

I'm still doing it though now I just call it a different way of eating as I really do love the recipes I'm using, I think it's similar to the Keto diet but hey whatever works. As you said I try and avoid carbs and sugar. Having said that I did resort to some jelly babies earlier tonight as I was stressed as my broadband connection was playing up ha ha.

All in all, it really has had a positive effect on my stomach problems and I now no longer get stressed when going out. Well done you, onwards and upwards and thank you again for putting a note on here....

Take care and keep safe xx

Interesting. My oncologist advises against ketogenic diet as outs too much strain on kidneys which chemo already does.

Hi Kazibar 7, I would say that the diet and changes I've been making are such that I definately don't consider it to be a strict Ketogenic diet. I've now been making these changes for about 2 years now and feel so much better. Yes when I eat naughty food like the odd piece of cake and anything with cream/lactose in it, I will be in for trouble, but on the other hand I like to have these naughty things occasionally. - own worst enemy sometimes ! e.g. I am soon off to a friend's party so I will take one tablet before I leave just to be on the safe side, as I know I'm bound to eat things I normally wouldn't. So yes as said it's not actually a Keto diet I'm doing. Each one of us is different so you must do what you feel is best for you, I feel so much better, I've kept the weight off, well mostly and this also makes me feel better. Take care and stay safe and thank you for responding x
