Our local health insurance offers some unique benefits to aid in insuring patients are doing all they can to prevent events and stay healthy. Recently I got $15 for oing my usual A1C test. Then $25 for doing an diabetic eye exam. When they offered a visiting nurse to come to the home and review my medical status and history, I welcomed that and they pay us $25 to accept that free visit. After the visiting home nurse finished an extensive review of my history (heart transplant 24 years ago, prostate cancer 17 years ago, kidney cancer 5 years ago, daily insulin for diabetes since 2006, etc.) she asked if I had any final questions for her. I explained that every health survey ends with a final question: "How would you describe your overall health?" offering options of "Excellent, Good, Fair and Poor" My question to her was "Given this long complex medical history we just reviewed, I feel dishonest in choosing that top response, despite feeling really great." She enthusiastically answered that I definitely am EXCELLENT! by everything she sees after that hour long in-depth review.
So I can honestly tell you, despite all that history, "Jim G is EXCELLENT today" and I can select that response to any such survey. I hope you can say the same!
Note: photo is a recent speaking event, sharing this awesome transplant success story (wife, Pam, a donor mom, sitting in the background) with medical staff who too seldom see us standing up when in their care at times of illness..
