I have just Googled 'Lima Beans', they are the Same Bean, that I know as 'Butter Beans'. Light Green to Off White, depending on how Ripe they are. They have other names too, including Madagascan Beans, Sieva Beans and Double Beans.
At least I now know, what we are 'Talking' about. I actually quite like them, especially as an ingredient in Chilli Con Carne, Casseroles and so forth.
It's Strange how names, for 'things' vary, around the world. In England we have something we call an 'Aubergine', which I personally don't like much, the Americans call it an 'Egg Plant'. We call 'Peas' the Small Green seeds, from a type of vine- in the West Indies they are a Kidney Shaped bean. We know these as Kidney Beans. I don't know if our 'Peas' are known in the Caribbean.
Some differences are Slight... That 'Charming' beetle, much beloved of children, the one with the red wing case and black 'spots'- we call a 'Ladybird'- the Americans call it a 'Ladybug'. Sometimes it's just pronunciation.... take Tomato, we, say 'Tom-Are-Toe' the Americans 'Tom-Aye-Toe'..... the same is true with Potato. I Do know, quite a number, of Other
Perhaps we could Start a 'Pronunciation Comparison' Post? What does 'Everyone' think.... Sorry Folks, you have to Think!
I call this a lima bean, but my mom, and elder's in my family call them butter beans. Fresh lima beans are green, and dried lima beans are usually off white/beige. I like them both, but if I had to choose it would be the dried white/beige lima bean.
