Hi my 6 year old son who is being investigated at the moment for ASD and ADHD has recently started making strange noises. It seems to happen mostly when he is laying in bed at a night time, or if he is relaxing on sofa etc. They can be random noises like a constant hum or a grunt. Sometimes even shoutimg out words one of them is "tits" im really confused why heis doing this? Has anyone else experienced this with there child? He also blurts out extremely inappropriate words out side whilst his playing etc.

Hi Daisyroxy, I suppose that for most of we laypeople, the first thing we'd think of when viewing your post is perhaps Tourette's syndrome, but it could only be a guess. You really need to discuss this with whoever is professionally investigating your son's ASD/ADHD, so that it can all be considered as a whole.

It must be quite distressing for you both, going through this, and I wish you well, and I hope that, together with your son's health professionals, you get a diagnosis and some effective help. Take care and stay safe.

Hi,

I’m with Callendersgal and suggest asking the professionals to assess for Tourette’s as well.

These sites might help give you some background info:

All the best

Ali

Hi Daisyroxy , to me this sounds classic to Tourette's syndrome. I don't know whether you've watched the Undateables on the TV, that's if you're in the UK, but the programme does feature people with the condition. In fact there was a programme on about 3 weeks ago with a mother that had Tourette's, she developed it when she was older. Her eldest son has it but now has it under control.

Have a look at this link:

bing.com/search?q=symptoms+...

I really do feel for you as this must be so distressing for you to witness. People may not react too badly around him as the condition is more well known know than it used to be.

Take care

Issues with executive functioning in children, teens and young adults, such as those with learning difficulties are because the part of the brain responsible is some way behind in development compared with the rest of the brain.

We found that a particular combination of nutrients really helped our son through his teens with his attention span. We also suspect an underlying dairy intolerance (he is now dairy free) and 'mild' hypothyroidism which gave him a muddled brain. (When he was younger he would switch off into a dreamworld and fidget with anything that was at hand.)

He now uses Neurobalance by Igennus (along with other supplements, but this would be his desert island necessity) and it says on the label that at lower doses (1 or 2 a day rather than 4 for adults) infants can safely use it. You can phone up the company for information. The ingredients are understood to help improve concentration span and cognitive function as they contain zinc, magnesium and p5p which reduces inflammation and helps with neural connectivity. (They also help with anxiety and adrenal function which is an issue in those of us with thyroid problems.)

These links explore the connection between low Magnesium and ASD, ADHD and Tourettes.

Bathing in Epsom Salts is a recommended way to increase Magnesium levels for children.

Here is a link that shows autistic patients have lower zinc in serum than controls.

I suspect that boys in particular need extra zinc as it helps make testosterone, which, in turn helps maintain serotonin levels .. the 'happy' hormone.

It sounds like your son has elements of Tourette's syndrome. You're going to need a great deal of patience and support along this journey. My son - ASD, ADHD... and then some is now 25 years old. I pray that your journey with your son will be easier than it has been for me.

Sounds as if he may also be developing Tourette's Syndrome. Get him assessed by the GP.

It's a tough thing to live with, but It sometimes comes along with ADD/ADHD.

Cheers, Midori.
