Hi, I'm new, I'm 64, I used to run loads in my 20's, ran a 10K in my 50's, just started again after being inspired by my niece. BUT, after completing my first week I'm having problems with one of my knees. It's really sore on the inside of my leg and lower than my kneecap. Can anyone suggest something to help? Many thanks, Jan

Hi Stationary,
You've unfortunately probably had your body's reaction to the fact that you've had a long break from running and are now 64. That doesn't necessarily mean you can't get fit enough to run again, but we have to do that much more slowly as we age.
It's not really possible to say what's caused this, so be cautious and stop any actual running for a little while. Keep your knee mobile with some gentle walking and exercise at home, (bending and flexing for example), but take note of any pain that ensues as you do that, and stop again if the pain persists. Ice is usually helpful for pain and and any swelling. Even the good old bag of peas from the freezer if nothing else is available.
For a few people, damage done to the knees in earlier life might mean it's not a good idea to run agin, but I'd always be optimistic, and try again when your knee's feeling better. But slowly! Very best wishes for returning to running as soon as you can. Take care.
Thank you!
