weight loss during taper?

I was taking 12.5mg pred for 18 months and now with the addition of biologics, I have tapered it down gradually to 5 mg . During these 18 months , I have gained close to 10kg!

Any idea after how long will I start to see any weight loss .

Depends on your body. Some people lose as they drop dose, some don’t unless they continue to consume a low carb diet. I was in the second camp, though I didn’t have to lose weight but needed the low carbs in order not to gain quickly. My advice is not to wait for the revolution and start with low carbs. How is your blood sugar doing?

Thanks SnazzyD . Yes, thankfully , blood sugar is under control . Is there a low carb diet for vegetarians?

As Snazzy says - no real answer to that. Some people lose as the pred dose falls, some don't lose until they stop pred and some don't lose even when they stop pred unless they put some effort into it.

If you didn't take any measures such as low carb when you started pred, then it is worth starting now.

As a vegetarian I assume the only thing you don't eat is meat products? Cheese and eggs are zero carb and many vegetables are low carb - root veg and a lot of fruit need to be moderated but it isn't that much different from what I do. The trouble with being veggie in the UK is it tends to involve a lot of pastry and pasta and rice which need to be reduced a lot. But it isn't NO carb, it is LOW carb and with a bit of ingenuity you can make things differently - no pastry quiches, letttuce or cabbage leaves as a substitute for wraps for example

Just ignore the fixation with low fat in the first - you need the fat and dairy fat is being rehabilitated re fat just like eggs are in the cholesterol story! That means you can leave out UPFs and for example make your own mayo with eggs and olive oil which has nutrients unlike the bottle of low fat stuff! And instead of a totally unsatisfying egg white omelette - use all the egg.

This is much better although talking about veggie keto. You don't need keto but if you aim at it, you have leeway to add carbs elsewhere

I found that when eating low carb properly I didn't get hungry between meals so you can incorporate their "snacks" into proper meals.

Hi U,once I got to about 7 mg I saw a reduction in weight so decided to make a concerted effort and lose more.I just cut out all ( or nearly all) the rubbish like homemade steamed puds sweets, cakes ,biscuits and just ate plenty of veg, fruit, walnuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds ( the nuts in moderation of course ) and the whole grain wraps instead of bread.Oats with berries of a morning are great and quite filling and good for you.Just a case of cutting out a lot of carbs and going easy on sugar.I am back to just lower than my Pre Pred weight ,and was up until a week ago ,on 4 and 1/2 mg.Once it starts to come off it gives you a real incentive I found .Best of luck,xx💐😜😃
