If you aren’t having issues with chewing [which could indicate GCA] then would say more likely a TMJ issue - maybe have look this - and discuss with GP/dentist [if possible].

Also your question has brought up related posts, so maybe have a look at them.
I was diagnosed with TMJ a couple of years ago. It can be worrying because it can cause pain in the jaw area, and in my case, set off the panic button thinking it was the return of GCA. Rheumatologist sent me for a scan, which confirmed TMJ. That was a relief ! I now find it comes and goes for no apparent reason. Best help I had was from my dentist's hygienist. She gave me some simple exercises to do which really help.
Good luck !
What is GCA? Thanks!
Giant Cell Arteritis -and as you have PMR you should be aware of it…have a look at this from FAQs

And maybe this - as you are relatively new -
That happened to my father who did not have GCA. He had it a while and then was on holiday in Spain and bit into a hard roll, he had excruciating pain and then he was OK.
Hi, Yes I have this. No pain (touch wood)! Just a clicking/cracking on chewing - most noticeable with soft food like bread I think.
yes, I have had this happen to me too. It comes and goes. I have an up and coming dental appointment abc I will see what they say.
Yes I have the same. My right jaw cracks when I open my mouth to eat and I also I have to chew gently to stop it happening every time I chew. It's really annoying I spoke to my dentist and he said there is not a lot can be done to stop it.
It sounds louder in your own head than what others hear he told me.
me too
I had salivary cramps on the right, and even swelling. Now I have pain and cracking on the left. I think my new dental crown/implant is too high so will get it checked by the dentist. Always on the alert for GCA!
My rheumatologist said I have TMJ. She suggested a mouth guard. Both sides of my jaw crack, and the left side hurts when I eat anything.
My jaw does the same thing, cracks when I eat or yawn. I thought it was due to a crown I had put on a tooth & I think the crown is not even with the other teeth & therefore it is throwing my bite off.
I've always had it. I'm told my late father had it too.
it happened to me as part of the symptoms I developed with GCA . Pain across the jaw and worse on chewing. TMj was excluded by the dentist and the rheumatologist confirmed GCA. It reduced over time with prednisone, returned with some of the earlier flares but touch luck at 5mgs and reducing slowly, my jaws ok. Good luck.
