waking at 3 am

I’ve always been a good “sleeper” and been able to get to sleep quickly but recently I’ve been waking up fully alert between 2 and 3 am. I read for an hour then get back to sleep but then I feel tired all day. Poor hubby has taken to sleeping in the spare room. I’ve had PMR for about a year, well was diagnosed about a year ago though I’d been in terrible pain for six months by then and have tapered slowly to 11.5 from 20 mg preds. Sleeplessness is not down to this lovely weather as had the same problem weeks ago when it was cold, wet and miserable

Corticosteroids mimic the natural hormone cortisol. It has many jobs: regulating the immune system and the sleep/wake cycle are two of them. Unfortunately, they work in opposite directions, so prednisolone can put them out of balance.

Could just be 'aging'.
