Having been on 5mg pred for four months, I have begun tapering to 4.5 mg to 4mg at 4-weekly intervals. On a few days I have varying degrees of fatigue, mood swings and some lightheadedness. Perhaps these are related to stress or physical activity. I have no pain stiffness etc at all. Are the symptoms I have mentioned "flares" or can I carry on reducing?

Would say more likely adrenals stuttering -have a look at this link - so maybe back to 4.5mg and let them have more time to catch up.

And if not already, use one of the slower tapering plans - DSNS or my simple taper as most popular-

Sounds more like adrenals not quite keeping up with the change in dose and you having slightly heavier days that you feel. I'd slow the taper down, 8 weeks not 4 weeks for example to do the changeover using a slowed taper.
