oops … Major flare …pushed send by accident

story continues😳

The 10 mg is not doing the trick at all . I have 2 strange things that are happening . My wrist is the most painful part of the Flare.. I never thought that wrists and ankles could be affected . The other thing which I did address in another post is nerve pain in .My GP put me on Lyrica which helped somewhat but side effects are drowsiness and fuzzy brain.

leaving in 10 days for a trip to South America so I have to get this undercontrol

You can edit your post or reply if you do that - tap on More under the post and the option to Edit comes up. Just add what you need. And PLEASE don't keep adding new threads to correct it - now you have 3 on the go for the same thing and I am really struggling to make sense of it because I can't see it all.

This is what I said on the other thread and I'll add to it

You are never heading relentlessly for zero - you are tapering to find the lowest effective dose and below that the inflammation of the continuing underlying autoimmune part of PMR will build up again until you have symptoms. PMR is always well managed with GCA level doses and only appears at the lower doses of pred. Below 5mg you need to taper very slowly and in small steps. This isn't just for the PMR but also because the adrenal glands will need to wake up again and regain their function - and that can take a lot longer than most doctors think.

And however slowly you go - you won't get below that lowest effective dose. Only when the underlying cause has burned out.

Please can you tell me: How quickly had you dropped to 3mg? How long have you been taking the 10mg? And what time do you take it? What is the nerve pain you mention? Do ordinary painkillers help any of the pains at all? And what country are you in? These factors ALL affect our answers.

If you were at 3mg when this flare appeared and 10mgs isn't helping the wrist pain, it does suggest that may not be PMR-related. I do get wrist pain when my PMR flares but it was always like that. It may be that you just need a bit more time for the 10mg to take down the increased inflammation.

The earlier you take the 10mg pred in the morning, the sooner the pain will be dealt with, If you aren't taking it until 8am, then it takes a good hour to get into the system and the inflammation has had several hours to get going - long time dripping tap before you start to mop up the puddle.

But answer my questions and we will put our thinking caps on.

Would agree with PMRpro if the increase isn’t “doing anything” -then is it PMR?

And whatever it is, not sure it will be sorted in 10 days..
