interesting, thank you for posting. I have low levels of ANCA ab present on blood screening. I was told that being on pred causes this. Hard to review when not an expert in the field. A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.

There are drugs that can cause ANCA antibodies to form so inducing vasculitis. However, I find it VERY difficult to believe pred is one since corticosteroids are the mainstay of treatment of ANCA vasculitis although there are some other drugs that can be used alongside them. As with GCA, the search for steroid-sparing drugs goes on.

But what is pretty certain is that a patient displaying PMR symptoms but who has ANCA antibodies should be investigated further since there is some evidence that they MAY go on to develop small vessel vasculitis. Whether the PMR morphs into a full blown vasculitis or whether it was a misdiagnosis isn't clear though.

Thank you SO much for this posting!!! I find it difficult to find/follow the latest research news on GCA/PMR treatment options. This site has been such a "God-send" for me. . .
