After a flare up of GCA in October and increased Pred to 60mg as small increased doses just weren’t working I had a phone consultation with my rheumatologist, I have been reducing by 5 mg a week of prednisolone whilst increasing my methotrexate up to 15mg a week also increased the folic acid to every other day instead of once a week. Got to say so far this is the best I’ve managed without any problems… next week I’m down to 10mg and to be honest I’m expecting the troubles to start, but the plan is to only reduce by .5 a week from then on and see how it goes, I’ve got rheumatologist on speed dial (well actually I email she gets back to me a couple of hours later) but it’s so reassuring knowing she is there. Just thought I’d share my positive experience xxxxxx love to all xxxxx

Fingers crossed your progress continues..😊

Folic acid every second day is still pretty low - many take it on all the non-methotrexate days so still a bit of leeway there.

Long may it last - fingers crossed!

Reducing by .5mg is eminently sensible. I understand you frustration - I've been there! - however you sound as though you have a really good rheumatologist. Now that you're down to 10mg, I feel, that you're over the worst of it. wishing you well. x
