DO I NEED A MEAL?

Hello All

This is my second time around with PMR the first time was 6 1/2 years ago so I really can’t remember some things

I am starting my medication tomorrow morning and the pharmacist said that I should eat a meal before taking it not just a cracker I don’t remember having to do that before I don’t eat breakfast and I certainly don’t want a meal at 7:00 in the morning Would a piece of toast be okay?

My doctor hasn’t given me any instructions either I’m not really too sure how much she know about PMR

I’m on a wait

List

To see a rheumatologist

thank you very much

I take my Prednisone between 5 am and 5:30 am with a few spoonfuls of apple sauce. Some people take it with yogurt or a piece of cheese. I used to take it with breakfast ~7.30 am, but wanted to start taking it earlier in the morning. I've had no issues at all.

Thanks very much. That will suite just fine. The pharmacist said that it can really upset your stomach. Thanks again for your help

I take mine with a piece of buttered toast, a cup of coffee, a Vit D tablet, and a soluble Vit C tablet in water whenever I happen to get up. That's my normal routine each and every morning, and I haven't suffered any stomach problems. I don't have a cast iron stomach either, as I can't tolerate Ibuprofen, it gives me stomach cramps.

Thanks piglets. Does I matter what dose you are on? I’m starting at 20mg

No. I like Comte best. They do say a Swiss cheese is preferable, but I think any hard cheese is fine.

Organic Greek style yogurt is a good stomach protector. I have never had a “ meal” before Pred.

I do what Sheffield Jane says. I eat a few bites of whole fat Greek yogurt and then bury each of my 2 pills inside 2 bites of it and swallow them down. Prednisone is hard on your stomach and digestive system so it’s a good idea to take some thing protective with them. I do this around 2 A.M. I don’t eat breakfast either.

It can really upset your stomach - but for many it doesn't have any effect at all. Many manage with just a decent helping of yoghurt but if you DO have problems, using a PPI or H2 inhibitor would protect your stomach and many doctors dish that out as standard.
