I was told you should avoid or limit the consumption of licorice if you are being treated with pred for more than just a few days.

I think on this one good to consult your doctor as it is listed as interacting with steroids. Corticosteroids -- Licorice may increase the effects of corticosteroid medications. You should consult with your doctor before using licorice with any corticosteroids.

Liquorice should not be taken with Pred - see this from FAQs -

.. and please don’t use your name as post heading…. system will show your name automatically.

I get confused when I want to post something new. I didn’t think my name had shown anywhere. !! Seeing rheumy on Saturday. As I have low blood pressure I was advised.. so far to take 3 drops twice a day and see how I feel. Anything to give me more energy is attractive!!!

Did you mean I shouldn’t put Bedwell on it? Very confused. I would never put my actual name!

Recently there have been several posts where the title has been the person's user name. We assumed it was new people not realising that upper box is for a title relating to what the post is about but it is looking as if it might be an HU bug - again!!!

When you post, the programme HU uses automatically says who the post is from with the username, that is what we meant.

Thank you for this info as I just ate some licorice, like I am still chewing it as I am reading this! I won’t eat any more.

I’m sure a little won’t see you off 😳…. but probably best to not imbibe too often… something else to look forward to when you are finally off Pred.. 😊

Don’t know who advised you, but they should have check it was okay with Pred first…. Sorry to hear you feel so rough… hope it soon improves.

When you post or reply, your name is always shown… so when you post just put the subject you are asking about in the title box.

It isn't recommended because not only might it help you need less pred it will also increase adverse effects of pred,

Please don't use your name as a title - if you had used "licorice", you would have triggered Related Posts.

It has happened a few times recently - is this another HU bug!!! Do you remember what you wrote in the upper box when you wrote the post?

Maybe ‘the system’ entered it as a default if you didn’t give the post a title…

This may help in future -

As I understand it, licorice makes the cortisol linger for longer by slowing its breakdown. This may be why you shouldn’t take it with Pred. In effect it sounds like it’s the same as increasing the level of Pred. The only way of getting the adrenal axis going is to keep presenting the body with a lack of cortisol so the feedback systems crank into action. Yes, you feel awful but if you either increase the Pred (artificial version of cortisol) or artificially increase the level of your own cortiso with licoricel there’s no need for your glands to work fully. Unfortunately there’s no way of short circuiting this bit and yes, it can be really tedious. Took me many months. Dropping by 0.5mg is easier on the body than whole 1mg’s.

I was informed through this forum that liquorice was not compatible with Pred. I can’t remember why. I sympathise with the exhaustion and have only found pacing my activities and a regular daily nap to be of any use.

I'll feel 'normal' for 2,3, or 4 days.....then I'm pooped. I give in if possible and nap, if not...keep going and just put my legs up~! Unpredictable 💞
