I did send nhs link re bursistis to your previous post - but you need to know it is that for sure.

Here’s a YouTube link, but can you self refer to a physio through nhs, or go privately?

Yes I read your reply. Want to know if you can have bursitis at same time as PMR? Thanks going to try for face to face tomorrow but not hopeful

I did say that in my reply - and that when it is part of PMR that just resting and icing may not be enough to calm it down as the PMR inflammation "feeds" the bursitis.

There are suggestions in the links I gave you in the other post and I made some recommendations too.

Hi, my Dr originally diagnosed me with PMR (tho is now exploring other options). After I pushed for x rays and ultrasounds it showed I have bursitis in both hips and shoulders. Apparently according yo my Dr it's common with RA and PMR. You have my sympathies as I know how painful it is.

It isn't just common - it is an integral part of PMR and though not specific to it is probably more common than in RA

Try looking on YouTube for exercises to help with that specific pain. There are a bunch of good ones.

Yes. I have both bursitis and sciatica…both diagnosed after examination by my doctor. He treated the bursitis with a steroid injection, & it improved for about 3 months.

Welcome back Pixix, I have been wondering how you are. Hope you and your husband had a very enjoyable holiday.

Thanks, kind of you. Sadly, on day 4 of holiday my Aunt had a stroke. They operated to remove the clot on day 5. On day 8 they moved her back from Bristol to Cheltenham, which seemed a really good sign, though she couldn’t speak properly, she was stable. So we made plans to dash & see her day after we landed home, but 2 days before we were due home, she passed away. Helped my cousin with the arrangements, went away last week for Aunt’s funeral. Still very sad. After my Mum died, she took over the role, & I miss her so much. My Injection wore off, bursitis very bad again, sciatica back (went away in heat & sunshine) & dislocated my toe last night. Life as normal! It was a beautiful place to go, but…! S xx

Thanks so much, we were so excited to be going on an overseas holiday for first time in 4 years! It’s always been our no. 1 hobby! The PMR has been very upset the past few weeks, but taking it very slowly now! S x

Thanks very much. Just watched first in a series about Dorset, with Alan Titchmarsh commentating. Hoping to go that way in a couple of weeks, depending on weather! S xx

We can reach the border in about 15 minutes….!

There’s a song there 🤣😂… well - think it’s actually “we can make it to the border” 😊

Pixix profile image
Pixix in reply to DorsetLady

Thanks, that brought a smile, as I hadn’t intended it! Think you’re right! It’s strange here, as half our road is I. Hampshire, the other half in Wiltshire, & Dorset close, too! Driving down the road some days you see all the wheelie bins out, & think you’ve forgotten, but then remember ‘you’ve crossed the border’!!! S x

Much like one of the houses we lived in - literally on Dorset/Wiltshire border and had to drive through Hampshire to get to work back it Wiltshire!

Pixix profile image
Pixix in reply to DorsetLady

Exactly! We drove back from Cheltenham, & went into Wiltshire, but then into Hampshire to get back into Wiltshire again!

Oh yes, probably a few roads like that! …😊

Thanks very much. Yes, I was struggling quite badly before we went away, now hit rock bottom. Bursitis has come back, & sciatica, too. Tremor is affected by any tiny stress, even just hurrying to do something…putting contact lenses in, or applying makeup is becoming impossible! Ah, well, onwards. Hope you haven’t had any setbacks since I’ve been ‘missing’!?! S xx

Rachmaninov2 profile image
Rachmaninov2 in reply to Pixix

No major setbacks, thank you for asking. But also finding that stress is affecting me, especially several heart related symptoms and shakiness.

Hope your garden birds are still lifting your spirits, I was watching a goldfinch enjoying some thistle seeds yesterday. Wishing you a day with enough positives to balance those negatives. 👍

Pixix profile image
Pixix in reply to Rachmaninov2

Thanks, & good to know you’re not too bad. To bring a smile to you…in the night I lifted my arm out of the quilt as I was hot…the tremor took control, & smashed me in the mouth! I’ve got swollen lips this morning! It’s only the second time it’s happened but I woke up with a jolt ready to fight off some intruder (or berate my hubby!) We had dreadful trouble with squirrels wrecking our feeders…one even inside the squirrel proof cage…though he got stuck in there then! So David put wire round them all…& then we had no birds, neither! He’s working on moderating his plan, & some birds came back yesterday! It was very strange, & sad, without them! S xx

I was referred to physio and given some exercises which helped, and told to use crutches, which I found impossible as it was during covid and the only time I went out was to go shopping. Try pushing a shopping trolley with crutches! I ended up with sticks which I now keep in the car.

The exercises helped a bit. The physio was excellent compared to the first (private) one whose exercises made it worse. When I was put on pred (40mg) the magic bullet worked to relieve most of the pain. I continued the exercises for a year. Only now is it really better, 18 months later, and I still get the odd twinge.

The exercises are on an app called physiotools. It takes you through a set every day and reminds you to do them. You have them tailored for you after a long consultation with the physio. Do see if you can get referred. You'll need an urgent referral as the waiting list is long. I was lucky, I got in after 4 days on a cancellation.

I have bursitis , it has been so painful .

I have ischial and trochanteric bursitis this was diagnosed by a consultant at the pain clinic .

He offered me an injection under x Ray that was in May this year haven’t heard anything back as yet .

I was getting desperate to get some relief from this relentless pain , it was agony even to sit on the toilet seat .

My son suffers from bowel problems and was given amitriptyline to help with the discomfort , it has really helped him , we were chatting about it . He just didn’t like how he felt groggy in the morning .

I remembered I had tried this drug last year , but didn’t carry on with them as I was at work also made me feel groggy , I had to be up early in work for 7 am so stopped taking it .

Have had to give up work in April due to all this pain .

Started back on 10 mg of amitriptyline and the relief has been wonderful it has really helped .

I am now on 20 mg as I started to feel little twinges of pain , I am much more comfortable than I was .

Sorry it’s a long post but wanted to explain it all , I hope you get some relief from your pain it’s so wearing and debilitating .

I went down this same road as you. It wasn’t bursitis or sciatica but I need a hip replacement. Two doctors never looked at my hip a third one did and said he did not know how I am walking at all even with a walker. Hope you get the correct diagnosis soon and pain relief.

I had a problem with my knee. After using my exercise bike I got fluid on the knee and it felt hot to touch and I was limping. The rheumatologist took some fluid off and injected it with steroid and that fixed it. That was several months ago but I am trying to remind myself not to do anything which involves very repetitive movement or puts too much pressure on any joints.
