Tapering down after shingles

I was currently on 1.5mg Pred for the last 10 days, having been on 2mg previously for about two months. I am tapering very slowly as I move down to coming off Pred altogether.

Alas, I’ve just been diagnosed with shingles but it’s actually a milder form than what I had five years ago. I’m currently on anti-viral tablets. I could feel a PMR flareup coming on with sore legs and hips so I have upped my Pred dosage from 1.5 to 5mg and have immediately felt relief and look at taking it for about a week. My query is after the week should I revert back to 1.5mg or start tapering back down from 5mg? .

I would be inclined to stay a little longer than a week say 10-12days -and then drop back to 2mg rather 1.5mg. Stay at that dose for 3-4 weekday before restarting taper.

If you feel a wary of the drop back down you can always do it in 2 stages -5-3.5mg stay at 3.5mg for 5 days then 3.5-2mg…
