Increased predisinol

Hi everyone you may recall my husband is on his journey with pmr he was decreased quite quickly from 20 ,15,10 abd finally five. You may recall the pain came back slightly only about 20 percent of what he originally was experiencing .Today doctor decided to put him up to 7 for a month which I feel happier with. My question is he wants to try 6 at first to see if it takes pain away completely instead of jumping to 7 straight away he was completely pain free at 10 before what are your thoughts and how long would the 6 kick in so if we knew it was enough thank you

Personally I'd say he needs at least the 7mg and possibly even the 10mg. There is accumulated inflammation which must be cleared out for a lower dose to be successful. And we know from experience creeping up the dose rarely works well as you are always playing catch-up. Our usual recommendation is to add 5mg to where you flared for a week to 10 days and then drop back to the last dose you were good at. So I would try the 10mg for a week and THEN try the 7mg - because even that may not be enough.

Further to PMRpro's comment this link contains usual advice for dealing with a flare - and for what it's worth, I totally agree with her suggestions -

I find going up 5mg for a week then dropping back to slightly above the original dose before you increased works best for me.
