I haven't written for a while, but thought I'd share my positive experience with my cataract treatment. I had an eye test back in the Spring 2022, where the optician noticed my cataracts where slowly worsening. Come last Autumn I noticed a rapid increase in the blurriness and fuzziness in my vision. I went back to the optician in November and he agreed that something had to be done! He made a referral to hospital for consultation. To my surprise an appointment came through for ten days later! I went to a lovely private clinic which is taking on the NHS overspill. I had my worse one removed on 13th December, and the whole experience was amazing. Quick, pain free and no after effects. The joy of being able to see so clearly whilst walking my dog is fantastic. I have a review for that eye this Friday and if healing is good I will be booked in for the other one. I can't wait! The seamless treatment from referral to now has been fantastic, well done NHS !

I have been going to the eye clinic for a few years now for macular oedema. At my last visit I saw a consultant who told me my eyes were stable but she would like to see an improvement so was going to try a steroid implant but it would give me cataracts. I told her I already have them. She looked and said she would refer me to her cataract clinic. Appointment came 10 days later for pre op assessment and I have my appointment for the operation at the end of the month. I am amazed as “the members of the team” .had never picked it up and things have moved so fast.

I had thought my poor vision was due to the oedema but now realise something can be done to improve my sight and am so pleased.

Thanks for your post. It is good to hear from someone who has had it done recently.

That is so good to hear, both the success of the op and the NHS thinking outside of the box. I have also developed steroid induced cataracts in both eye so your post was very reassuring

I can certainly relate to that, had two steroid induced cataracts off in 2022, 6 months apart, and thorough Glaucoma tests owing to raised eye pressure, resulting in eye drops, but the whole thing was faultless and something to praise the whole eye department for, just a shame the other departments involved in my GCA/PMR, plus miscellaneous problems in the last two years hasn't been so efficient and well staffed so I could have more confidence in the NHS.
